I had 26 specialist ask me how I can walk. They are not psychic, they can not say what will happen in your future. Why will they not do surgery? Have you checked on having a fusion done ? They doctors told me that eventually my spine will slowly fuse itself. The only thing I have to be careful about is where the nerves are at as it fuses. There are a lot of therapies out there to help with your back such as traction, pt, acupuncture, aqua therapy. Don't give up yet and like I said above don't listen to everything your doctor says. You know your body and what you are capable of. Fight for it. If I listened to everything all the doctors told me I couldn't do I would be stuck in a bed wearing diapers and have no life. Best wishes.

I've already had the injections in my back it didn't work, I've been told they can't operate on my back as 5 disks are wasting away, I can't do much because it is to painful, the specialist told me I would end up in a wheelchair for the rest of my life when my back goes.

I too have much trouble with disc's in lower back area, I have several bad ones and surgeon was going to operate but thought to try injections firstly, I was sent for Radiofreqency Injections to a specialist in this field of work, I had to travel fairly far by car to get to were he did the work.
In case you've not heard of it, it entails burning nerve endings, it is very painful procedure, though very worth the pain, I have been able to walk further again, as I was 'freezing up' and couldn't go on when I went out walking.
I am waiting to have it done for the Siatic Nerve as this keeps on returning and taking me off my feet.
I had it done for Neurolgia that I have in my teeth, but that was another story, it went wrong and wasnt successful at all.
Was interesting to read other's stories in this painful problem.

I had three go out on me and pinch my spinal cord and nerves and I can still walk. You may have numbness (neuropathy). I had two disc that were originally operated on re-herniate two years later and they are still herniated, that was 8 years ago so I have had a total of five. You will have problems and need to be careful in what you do. Be sure you ask your doctor what your limits are. You also need to have at the very least a yearly mri to make sure that no nerves are becoming pinched or tangled up with the disc/vertebra in your back. You are at risk for them to be in the way and need to make sure they are in the clear. Your back can fuse itself together you just need to make sure the nerves are in the right spot when this begins to happen. There are things that help like therapy and medications to slow down the degeneration that you can talk to your doctor about. Hope this was helpful. If you have any more questions that I may be helpful with just send me a message. Best of luck to you.
