big blood clots during menstrual cycle

My boyfriend and i recently got married and while we were still dating i started using the 2month injection as birth control, but after a while i discovered that i had a burning, painfull sensation when we would have sex, we then resorted to using condoms again, and i stopped using birth control, well last month when i got my period it lasted only two days, when my normal period lasts between 6-8 months and this month, well tonight when i got my period i was in so much pain i felt like i was dieing, i then went to the toilet as i could feel something wanted to come out, i peed and when i wiped with tissue a clot the size of my hand dropped onto the tissue, please help as Im confused and don't know if i should see a doctor about this. Will greatly appreciate any information. Thank you.
