big fibroid in uterus

Hi,
Went for n pelvic ultrasound today, due to a enlarged uterus.Test revealed a very large fibroid tumor on my left side,it measured a whopping 10 cm or about 5 inches! To say the least,I was in shock.I can feel it when im laying on my tummy,n certain ways laying down on my back,it is hard. One common symptom is heavy bleeding, however for me I dont have that, but I have experienced a very long period, also it is so big im going to pee alot. They also said they are unable to see my left ovary due to the fibroid.I will be seeing my gyno on wed.4-21-10

My question is has anyone had a fibroid this big,n if so what kind of procedure would be better?I was told if at all possible to try n save the uterus instead of a total hysterectomy.Any advice?

Hi,
Thanks for your input nickie.I just went online to see if there could be an supplement,herbs,vitamin,etc..to help shrink my huge fibroid,I found this product called vitalzymes n dimpro which suppose to help make the fibroid smaller.I bought it n quite excited to try,as I was told b my doc,if I decided to have a hysterectomy I should think about taking a shot to help shrink it before surgery so I wouldnt lose to much blood.I am hesitant about the shots because ive heard n read about the "awful" effects of it.To me the natural way is worth the try. Also,I am 44 yrs old n not having any children so that part about saving my eggs is not a problem, however if I can save my ovaries I will try to,but if not thats ok to.So now my journey begins when my vitalzymes n dimpro arrives to see how it does with the shrinking my jainormous(laughing) fibroid! I'll keep posting.
Nickie, thank you again for your response!

I think that you have to go with what the doctor says. My sister had this last year and had to have surgery to remove it. They didn't do a full hysterectomy either but she did lose her right ovary because it was so overgrown. I would say that if they can save at least one of your ovaries then it is better than not having any. If they can't then maybe they can freeze some of your eggs so you would at least have a chance to do IVF and have your own biological child (ren). I am sorry that you are going through this and I hope that your treatment is a success without too much invasive action taken.
