birth control

by NahNah, Jun 16, 2007 12:00AM
Hi I just wanted to see if anyone has used Implanon or IUD and what they thought about them. I am running out of options for birth control because of side effects and am considering these two. I am not eligible for the IUD with hormones because it is not FDA approved for women who have not had children. So if anyone has tried the copper one I would like to know what your experience is with it. I am a little leary about the IUD because of info on websites, and I don't know anyone who has used it, so I would like to know how common side effects are.
Thanks

Nah-

You are right about the IUD.  It really is quite outdated and I would not use it myself.  I just think of this metal ring sitting there rusting away.  The Implanon from what I look at sounds
pretty good as long as the hormones are low enough not to bother you ( I am assuming that its one of the side effects that you were speaking of).
Have you considered the old diaphragm?  No hormones and pretty effective.  You just pap it in prior to intercourse with a little spremacidal gel. Also Nuvo ring.  Have you researched that?  Good Luck Sweetie.  Remember protection from  germs as well as sperms!

I have researched nuva ring and diaphram. I am in a serious monogomous relationship for a couple of years now. We have been talking about marriage once we get bills caught up and can afford it, so I'm not too worried about the std part. I am looking for hasle free at this point. I have a history of migraines so my doctors don't think I should be on anything that contains estogen. All though I liked those ones better. I have been on the patch, had discoloration due to skin sensitivity. I have tried depo, had bloating, hair thinning and a couple other annoying side effects due to high hormone levels at once. Nothing too bad. was on estrogen/progestrin pills, was taken off them because of getting a lot of migraines. Not from the pills, but still taken off as a precaution. Now on mini pill, low progestrin. Ended up with an ovarian cyst, I think from changing from 1 hormone to another. I don't think I want to stay on it because there is no room for error. More than 3 hours late on 1 pill and you need back up for 72 hrs. That is too close for comfort. Implanon is low dose progestrin, and stays in place for 3 yrs.
