bladder pressure, frequent urination...ovarian symptoms?

by renie, Sep 03, 2003 12:00AM
I have had reoccurant uti like symptoms for a few months..all my cultures show no infection just white blood cells..I've seen a urologist who did a bladder ultrasound and cystoscopy both normal..I saw my gyn who did a pelvic ovaries were normal..he did not give me a ultrasound though..should I persue further testing since this could be a symptom of ovarian cancer? I am 30yr..also I did have a pelvic ultrasound 6 moths ago for something else and my ovaries were normal size.

I too have had UTI symptons, but when I went to the doctor for a culture, there was no bacteria found. They did a test to rule out gonohrea (sp?) and clamydia (chlamydia), but that too came out negative. It seems that any time I have sex, I am getting these UTI-like symptoms. I'm not sure what else to do, I'm on CIPRO right now. Any ideas??

I have the same symptoms as you and Renie.  Always have cultures that come back normal.  Been to a urologist and he has no idea.  One suggestion though.  When I have symptoms, I take Uristat, an over the counter medicine for the UTI symptoms.  They go away for a few weeks or a month.  But at least I am not taking the antibiotics all the time now.  That worried me becasue you do not want to get immune to the antibiotics.  So maybe try the Uristat instead of the Cipro next time.  I would LOVE to find the answer to this problem too.

my 16 yr old daug has same problem recurrent uti they need to culture your urine to know for sure if u have a true uti. They did a cystocopy said the texture of her bladder was rough looking but the raidoligist still didnt think she had interstecial cycstitias (sorry i don't think i spelled it right) Its called I.C. for short. She was admitted in the hospital and Dr Hibner @ St.Joesph's IN Arizona said he diagnosis I.C. in a different way than the radioligst do. He is a pelvic pain specialist and inserted sodium pottasium into the bladder and told my daug if it brings on the same type of pain pressure than thats how they diagnosos I.C. and said she had it.Her symptoms are a feeling like she has to urinate and even when she does she still feels like she has a full bladder. the pressure from not being able to relieave hurts. She is on pain med's to help until we can find a answer but if it is I.C. they say there is no cure. She gets injections at the pelvic pain office through her urietha . The medicen in the cocktail (they call it) is supposed to help by bringing down inflamiation. She also talked elmerion but its not working yet this has been going on for 10 months now I'm starting to think maybe there is something else going on Im going to rule out bladder cancer and have them do a abdominal laporoskyto also rule out endemetreosis . She also has been treated and diagnosed with severe migraines and is on topomax (topamax). She was nausa and vomiting for 6 months straight anywhere from 4-6 times a day straight. Shes been through so much  at such a young age any info would help . I hope this helps all of you as well.

For the last couple of days i have had this unbelievable pressure on my bladder i just knew it was a uti i finally went to the hospital this morning i told them i have all this pressure i feel like i have to go to the bathroom even though i just went and when i do go it is alot...they took a culture it came back normal they gave me a cat scan that was normal they drew blood everything was normal they made me think it was just all in my head. if everything is normal why do i have all these symtoms? It just started like i said 3 days ago out of the blue..as soon as i go to the bathroom i get relief for about 2 or 3 minutes then it starts to build up again i haven't been sleeping it wakes me up every half hour to an hour.they said i had no fever but yet i have the chills i get sick to my stomach..it is making me crazy it is real but they can't find anything wrong...any suggestions?

Im so sorry to hear about your daughter's discomfort! Have you had her checked for endometriosis and/or fibroids? Also, the nausea, migraines, fatigue, etc, are indications of hormone imbalance and anemia. Are her periods heavy? If so, she may have fibroids and/or endometriosis. How is her diet? Is she eating or drinking anything that may be causing her bladder to inflame? Is her life very stressful? It all comes back to how she is dealing with stress in her life...in school, at home, during hobbies, etc...When a person does not have the proper tools to deal with stress in a healthy way, their body reacts by getting sick in some way...
How does she feel about sex and losing her virginity? There is evidence that having negative feelings and thoughts about sex can cause gynocological health problems...it's the body's way of coping with negative thoughts about a particular thing that makes us feel uncomfortable.
I look forward to hearing back from you...
Please keep in mind that every physical symptom we have corresponds to something emotional going on in our life...something we may not even be aware of!

I also have had an extreme pressure in my bladder with a normal urine analysis.  My doctor stated that there are several urinary tract irritants that may have caused it.  Caffeine, calcium, citruses, and alcohol.  Good luck ladies, I feel your pain.

Same here, but I do have a ovarain cyst, which I beileve is the root, but the urologist want to do more tests to rule IC and such out b/c she fels the same as me.  All of you who havent get a ultra sound of yur ovaries!

Just curious, if the ultrasound for an ovarian cyst comes back positive do you know if there is anything that they can do to stop the bladder pressure/frequent urination?  Have you talked with your GYN or urologist about what (if any) treatments exist for the cysts?  Thanks.

by leannemartin, Oct 06, 2007 11:07AM
I have bloating, I look like I am pregnant, frequent urination, pressure in my abdomen, lower back pain, extreme fatigue and pain during intercourse. What could this be. My doctor kept giving me medication for urinary tract infection.

Get an appointment with a GYN/Onocologist,  get a TVUS, a CA125, a good internal pelvic exam,  many of your symptoms are for OVCA yes, but they also are the signs of endo. fibroids, ovarian cysts and many other causes.

What are other causes. Should this be something I should be worried about. I just haven't felt like my self. I am also very irritable. I feel sorry for my family for me being this way but I just don't feel great. What is your opinion.

Has anyone ever consider interstitial cystitis?

by leannemartin, Oct 08, 2007 08:57PM
To: myname1
No I have not considered interstitial cystitus. I don't even know what that is. I went to the doctor back in June. They took blood and did a urine test. Then they called me and said urinary tract infection. They prescribed me with anitbiotics. I felt better. Then I went back after a month and they said Urinary Tract infection again and again. This other doctor said I never had UTI but he doesn't know what is wrong. This is all I am going on. I am worried it is the worst. I have an appointment with my gynocologist.

I am really posting this to all of you that have had complaints concerning frequent unrination.  No infections are found.  I have had bladder pressure for at least a year. I have been to a GYN, Urologists, primary care physicians, you name it I have seen them.   I have had kidney stones removed, laproscopic surgery (nothing abnormal) and a cystopy (spelling).    I was actually hoping that the Lap would indicate that they had found something wrong so they could fix it. My GYN seems to think our next step is to remove the uterus, I just don't see how this can help.  I am past child bearing age so I do need it, I just don't want to go through another procedure with no results. I  am depressed, tired, and dealing with the pressure 24/7 is exhausting and I am beginning to think that the doctors believe I am faking it or that it is all in my head.  Have any of you gotten any answers to your symptoms.  I am now grasping at straws I want to be able to take something to my doctor and let him know that I am not the only one who has these symptoms.  I can't take motrin or aleve and the doctor's answer is to give me prescription pain medicine.  Any help would be so much appreciated.

I am sorry but I have no help for you. I have just started with these symptom probably June or before of this year. This is all new to me. I am almost 30 but I feel like I am 60. I went to the doctor because my lower back gets to hurting. They have me come and pee in a cup. Well I seen a different doctor he said was not urinary tract infection but he doesn't know what and said I never had urinary tract infection. Still no answers. But I got on the internet and was looking up stuff and seen I had symptoms of ovarian cancer. But I am worrying myself sick. I can't get to the OB/GYN until November. They are not concerned. But I have pain during intercourse, My stomach is swelled. I look like I am 6 months pregnant. I have not ever been this big other than when I am pregnant. I have pressure in my abdomen that comes and goes and the lower back pain that comes and goes. I am very tired and grouchy. I just don't feel like myself. I have three kids that I have to keep up with and It is just not working. I don't know what to do either. I feel like I am going crazy.

I feel like we are talking about the same thing.  If it makes you feel any better, I did have the laporscopic surgery and they ruled out ovarian cancer and the doctor told me that with ovarian cancer you don't usually have such pain.  I saw in a earlier post that someone mentioned interstitial cystitus, I looked it up on the internet and it does sound a lot like what I am experiencing.  Take a look and let me know what you think.  I know what you mean about worry, my biggest thing is I am starting to think that people think I am exaggerating or faking.  My husband is very understanding but I think he is growing tired of the whole thing.  I have been going through this for over a year now and it is starting to cause mental depression, I have even made statements like "I'm done" or "I really want to go  to sleep and never wake up".  I don't really think I would really go through with anything.  I go to work everyday and work 8-9 hours and come home and collapse from the exhaustion of dealing with the pain and pressure all day.  I hope you don't mind me going off like this but I think it helps to know someone understands what I am going through.  Good luck to you.

Could abdominal adhesions cause these bladder issue?

by chinchilla, Jan 25, 2008 10:12PM
To: All
I have had bladder pressure for a few days now. I urinate frequently, but it's on and off. Sometimes I'm afraid to get off the toilet for hours, and other times it doesn't bother me for a day or two. Also, when I do urinate I feel a discomfort. Not a burning, but almost like a dull pain. Well, intense discomfort. And it doesn't go away; the awareness is there as a constant.

What could it be?

by bjkrt, Jan 25, 2008 10:50PM
I have had the UTI like symptoms off and on for years with negative cultures.  It got so bad last year that I went to a pelvic pain specialist after years of going to ob/gyns or urgent care for antibiotics constantly.  I also had all the tests for IC and they were all negative.

During a ultrasound on my bladder, they found two (one on each side) 5 cm ovarian cysts.  During the surgery to remove these, they found stage 4 advanced endometriosis with severe adhesions.  The uterus had prolapsed and become attached to the intestines by scar tissue/adhesions. The cystoscopy done during surgery showed a slightly rough surface in the bladder but nothing remarkable.  I had no idea about the endo or the cysts.  Never had pain or discomfort or anything except the UTI symptoms.

I had surgery to remove the cysts, adhesions, a uterine suspension and , forget what its called, moving and encasing the ovaries.

All of this to say, after the surgery the dr put me on Bactrim DS twice a day for 10 days and then once a day for a month.  I had no trouble for months after that.  Since then (last May), I have had 2 UTI-ish episodes but that is amazing for me.  I think the extra long course of Bactrim is what helped the most.  Some drs are hesitant to do this.  Several told me they were worried about me building up resistance.  I was in such pain I wasnt worried about resistance.  I needed relief.

Im not saying this will work for everybody but it was my experience when I was desperate for anything to help.  I wanted to post my experience in case it might help someone else with these problems.  I searched and searched for anyone going through the same as me and found nothing.

I was wondering if you had any blood in urine (microscopic) as well? I have same symtoms and just starting w/doctors and tests, and looking for answers! Also, did you have any back pain, etc??

by hopeshell, Feb 06, 2008 04:31PM
I had frequent and urgent urination but no blood.  I would keep going in to get tested for a bladder infection but never had one.  I think it would be rare to have blood except in a very advanced case and you would likely have several symptoms at that point.  Usually, the tumor just puts pressure on the bladder.  I did have back pain but it was crampy and I could feel it through to my front.  Please follow up with a gyn if you have concerns.  A transvaginal ultrasound is the best way to screen for an ovarian mass.  IYou may want to "post a question" at the top as this is added to an old post and may not get answered the same way new posts do.  Best wishes

To: everyone!
I have had many UTIs and I'm only 20 years old.  Doctors would just give me the medication whenever I told them bc I got them so often. I don't know what I get them, I'm a clean person and try not to do anything that would trigger them.  Recently I have felt a ton of pressure on my bladder, I'm very tired, I'm bloated every day , I urinate all the time.  Sometimes I go days without drinking anything just see if I go, and I still go a million times a day.  I can't sleep at night because I'm always up running to the bathroom.  Also, after intercourse I feel like I have a UTI, but I no I don't because it does away after a few.  I have an appt with a specialist in a month but I can't wait that long.  Any ideas?

by Hayley723, Feb 07, 2008 09:33AM
It could be a bladder infection, but I'm learning as well that there are so many different causes of all these same symptoms. I have all those symptoms and more, and have microscopic blood in urine, but no bacteria, so it's not an infection, but could be many different things, just make sure you do get in w/a doctor, maybe even try a reg. physician first to get in sooner and rule out infection or get meds for it! In the mean time you could take uristat or azo to relieve some pain, that's all they've told me to do for now! Good luck!

I have the constant feeling of a full bladder, when I go not much comes out and when it stops I can feel my bladder filling up again.  I urinate about 10-12 times a day.  Being in my 20's my doc said this is not normal I was going to be referred to the urologist until she discovered my uterus was enlarged and ordered an ultrasound...... I have 2 cysts on my ovaries which are putting pressure on my uterus and bladder... I am going for surgury.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND GETTING AN ULTRASOUND

I almost didn't.... good thing I did... before these suckers got bigger.

It was like reading about me. I have had the same symptoms for several weeks. had 2 lots of anitibiotics, but had a negative urine. had negative blood tests and a negative USound. I am waiting to see the urologist. it is a horrible situation. i feel really down, especially as I am about to start a new high pwered job. i feel like an old lady and could end up wearing  a pair of depends.

I have had frequent urination and bladder pressure for 7 months, with two UTI's negative, and a urologist appointment in a month- I'm concerned!
After reading your message I realized it is a good idea to look into ovarian cysts. I never even thought about that until coming to this site. Would you, or anyone else recommend forgetting about the urologist and going straight to getting an ultrasound? I would like to rule everything out, but it makes so much sense to not waste the money and headache for unneeded tests!
Any suggestions?

by Hayley723, Feb 17, 2008 07:48AM
If you have had uti symptoms I would still go, if they are a good urologist they will figure out you have cysts causing the problems or something else...they will prob send you for a ct scan which will see cysts better anyways! Thats exactly what I'm going through right now!

Since your 2 UTI's came back negative I would STRONGLY urge you to ask your gyno for an ultrasound.... I have had frequent urination & bladder pressure for a few years that I can remember... here is a good website for symptoms..

http://www.4woman.gov/faq/ovarian_cysts.htm

What are the symptoms of ovarian cysts?
Many women have ovarian cysts without having any symptoms. Sometimes, though, a cyst will cause these problems:

pressure, fullness, or pain in the abdomen
dull ache in the lower back and thighs
problems passing urine completely
pain during sexual intercourse
weight gain
painful menstrual periods and abnormal bleeding
nausea or vomiting
breast tenderness
If you have these symptoms, get help right away:

pain with fever and vomiting
sudden, severe abdominal pain
faintness, dizziness, or weakness
rapid breathing

I am 28 years old with a 3 1/2 year old that was conceived almost unbelievably and for the last 4 months I have actually been trying to get pregnant and can't.  I thought that was weird as it was soo easy before, and then all of the sudden this month I began having this pressure in my bladder and down feeling like almost to the urethral opening.  I have had UTI problems in the past and thought that was it but the culture was negative and the antibiotics the doctor gave me are not helping the symptoms at all.  She also did a pelvic exam at the time of the culture and I had a lot of discomfort when putting pressure on the bladder.  I feel as though sometimes the pain is in the urethra, sometimes the bladder and sometimes the vagina.  I can't understand it. Which brings me to the original story, could this mysterious pain be what is preventing me from getting pregnant.  I am immediately thinking cancer, ovarian or uterus.  I have had my yearly paps all good and shee said she pushed on my ovaries and uterus which did not elicit pain like the bladder did.  It came on sooo sudden so that is what confuses me. HELP!  I do have occasional bouts of shooting pain in the pelvic region too...does anyone else?

I have similar pains...and conceived my daughter w/in 2 weeks of being off the pill...now we haven't exactly "tried" but "should" have gotten pregnant numerous times and it didn't happen. One doctor thinks i have endometriosis, and I'm going back to the other dr. next week so I will hopefully have some answers. You should look into the symptoms of endo and compare your pains, ect...even though it could still be many numerous things...I'm learning that so many different causes can make all the same symptoms. Go see a dr. though, so you can get started with things, cuz it may take a while to get to the bottom of it! Also, you should get an ultrasound and check for cysts on your ovaries...even small ones can cause a lot of pain like I have had as well!

I am 30 years old ,no kids. For the past 2 years  i've been experiencing symptoms like UTI's.The first time I had a pelvic exam and the GYN find nothing wrong with it.Then it disappeared for a while and came back again so i did a 3 day course with antibiotic and went away for about 7 months. Now it came back again. In the past 3 months i've been at the gyn office regurlarly! She did multiple pelvic exams and urinalysis, i had a pelvic ultrasound, Transvaginal, blood work done (to check for ovarian cancer) but everything came back normal. She didn't think it was UTI because the urinalysis was normal  everytime but i asked her anyway to put me on antibiotics(i was in a lot of discomfort) and she gave me Cipro for a 3 days course. It had seemed to have worked  for about  2 weeks but the symptoms have came back again now.My symptoms: bladder pressure, frequent need to urinate especially at night(no blood or pain when i urinate though),pain in my  very lower right-center pubic area, sometimes i get this stabbing-like pains in my vagina also. Now besides this symptoms ,i've been having some nausea for about  a week that goes on and off during the day.Do you have any advice? What should i do?I don't know if I should go back to the Gyn or perhaps go see my MD, i don't know.Any advice? Thanks

You could ask to be referred to a urologist or urogynocologist. My symptoms are similar and come and go whenever like that too, and antibiotics dont work, nor do they give them to me because the urinalysis is neg. In the meantime, my urologist gave me vesicare to help with the bladder pressure/urgency, and said to try sitting on a hot water bottle once in a while. I also take uristat or azo standard (both over the counter) for the irritated bladder or whenever I feel like I have a uti. Good luck!

Yes, I have nausea off and on, it's totally random, which I've never had before. You can start w/your family dr. they will probably check all the basics then refer you to a specialist (unless you've already seen your regular dr. and they found nothing, you can also make an appt. w/a urologist on your own), which is about where I'm at, and I go back next wednesday and will hopefully get some answers.

Thanks for the response.  Since my last post I have gone back to the DR. and had an external pelvic(bladder, uterus and ovaries) ultrasound. She also did a transvaginal ultrasound at the same time.  Both were unremarkable aside from a small amount of fluid around my right ovary which the Dr. said was normal!  I have one more day of antibiotics left as they did find Strep B bacteria in my urine and put me on some form of penicillin.  I still have the pressure and discomfort.  I also feel now a sort of burning in the vaginal area but all vaginal cultures are normal.  I am stumped!!!!!  I am going to make an appointment with a urologist I think.  My OBGYN wants to do some potassium test for intersticial cystitis (spelling).  I have never had this before and am very scared that it is some bladder cancer or something.  It comes and goes which is weird, and never bothers me while I am lying down or at night sleeping it is the worst when I sit, and second when I stand.  I am so FRUSTRATED!!!!  Anyone have it worse in certain positions?  What if this never goes away?  I can't live like this!!!

I was told the burning like a uti with out having any bacteria there is from vaginal dryness...now I'm really confused! I'm going back to the ob/gyn because the urologist said my bladder looks fine and the very small cysts I have should have been monitored this whole time...what the hell!!!

Yes, it is worse when sitting or standing.  And it doesnt bother me at night either.  Lying down is the only thing that helps.  I dont understand that either.  Most people with IC have problems at night.  I had all the IC tests and they were negative.  I also had a cystoscopy and there was nothing.  It is very frustrating!

Night seems to be worse and when I try to go shopping this is hard.  I have had 5 days of bactrim even thought they found no UTI.  I had a vaginal ultrasound and everything looks ok.  I have biopsys of my uterious and it came back negative.  Urinalysis came back negative.  I am so fustrated right now and wonder how some of you woman telling us you have been going through this for months.  How do you deal with it?  I am going to call a urologist Monday and go from there.  It seems like some of you have gotten a lot of the same results--->Just live with it?

The urologist I saw told me it was all from vaginal dryness and gave me estrogen cream~I'm 25 yrs. old and never had my gyn tell me that!! I think the majority of my urgency was from ruptured cysts, but my gyn doesn't think so because she only saw ultrasound and not ct that stated free fluid and bilateral cysts. Anyways, I'd say for now your best bet is to go see urologist and check for any bladder issues to at least rule that out. It could be a slightly overactive bladder. She did say I had that, but that's just based on how frequently I go! Good luck!

Wow! It's amazing how many people are experiencing the same symtoms and no actual diagnosis. After researching all the different symtoms ( bladder pressure, slight burning, going constantly) It could be a number of things. I am scheduled for an ultrasound on my ovaries after a recent UTI has been ruled out. Thank you to everyone who has posted their personal symtoms and experience. This is encouraging to read and know your not the only one.

i have had unbearable abdominal pain for 8 years, i shake in pain for days at a time. i take percocet which offers some relief, but i am homebound and cannot work. i have to urinate frequently and my bladder hurts really bad as well as my lower right side.i sleep very little because sleeping makes the pain worse. when i wake up i have to run to the bathroom,it feels like ive been holding it for days, or i have trouble urinating. i was tested several times for a urinary tracy infection at the emergency room, i dont think they cultured it. i have been to many doctors including 2 mayo clinics. they said they tested me for everything, i dont know what everything is. i dont know how long i can continue to take this pain.no doctor has even precribed antibiotics for me. i ordered some on the internet but they ill take 11-20 days, maybe they will help. i believe you could still have some infection without testing positive. there is pid which there is no real test for and lymes disease which there is no real test for which can effect every organ in your body including your brain. the doctors say im cronic, cronic what? i guess this means they dont know hats wrong with me so i should just suffer in pain. have you ever met a doctor in pain, if they knew how bad it was things ould be different.

ANY THOUGHTS?

Maybe you can start trying certain specialists...can you pinpoint when the pain is worse and where. Have you been to a urologist to have your bladder looked at? That may at least rule some things out. I would just try to start somewhere with a dr./specialist and start ruling things out to get to the bottom of it. I don't know what else to say! And I agree, no dr. would ever suffer in pain, they would get to the bottom of it before the week was over!!! Good luck!

i have been to specialists and doctors for over 7 years, they claim they cant find out whats wrong with me. this actually happens alot, many people suffer in pain for years without any doctor finding out whats wrong with them.all the tests, mri, cat scans, exrays come back perfect. i dont know how i can be so healthy for someone in so much pain. i have pain in every organ, muscles, joints, headaches. thats why i think i might have cronic lymes disease. i was bitten by a tick over 8 years ago. now that i have been reading about cronic lymes i definetly think it may be my problem. actually doctors dont want to keep messing with you, they want to say you have some cronic problem like fibromyalgia, except i have never read one person that thought they had fibromyalgia say they have severe abdominal pain. no one has ever suggested a urologist to me, so i will be going to one very soon.,

Hi I just recently had a child in late December through C-section.  I recently out of no where developed pain and pressure in my stomach and felt pressure on my bladder.  I was also getting up 4-6 times a night to urinate.  I went to my OB/Gyn and he did a culture on my urine and there was no uti.  He gave me antibiotics for 3 days any ways and it did not go away.  I have a history of uti's and I was sure this was a uti but it wasn't.  I than again went into my OB/Gyn again and he did some bladder tests that were very uncomfortable.  This included filling my bladder with water and other tests.  He inserted a cathater(sp) and did all these different tests.  It was no picnic.  He diagnosed me with interstitial cystitis and perscribed me a very expensive drug called Elmiron.  I just started taking it yesterday and he told me it takes 6-12 weeks to be effective.  He also gave me info on how controlling your diet can help reduce the syptoms (symptoms).  Google interstitial cystitis and see if the symptoms match yours.

hi,  i wonder if you could give me some advice.
I too, like all of you have bladder pressure and urgency issues. I go to the bathroom freqently...sometimes 3x /hr..  When we were coming home from a VT vacation just last month - i was horrified that i had to stop like every 15/20 min at every rest stop. I have never done that before.  The pressure and buildup it terrible...especially because i know i am not full..
I was just at my gyn last month also. That was the first day i noticed i went alot. Went before the exam.. after the exam... and again after my vaginal sonogram. I went to my GP 2 weeks ago.. no UTi... no infection either. He tested my urine again this past week during a physical. I will be getting my blood work done tomorrow and then i will see what is up. He is suggesting i go next to a Urologist.  I am wondering after reading all your posts if i should go or call my gyn first..... she did do a vaginal sonogram while i was there, so i am not sure ? if cysts would still be an issue. would it be possible that she missed them.  I was there because i had a period and we thougth i was over that so she was looking for anything or everything suspicious. Do i call her and tell her i now have a bladder problem or go to the Urologist?  Also... are the bladder tests painful?? I really have a low low tolerence for pain.  Thank you all.

by Hayley723, Mar 28, 2008 02:34PM
I would let your gyn know first and see if she refers you to a urologist. If you do see a urologist they will most likely do a cystoscopy and I thought it was pretty painful even though the worst of it only lasted about 5 seconds! Then afterwards I had a lot of burning/pain for a day and a half. But it could be cysts causing the urgency/frequency, so make sure thats ruled out first (it's the most common cause usually). Good luck

Before I was diagnode with stage 4 ovarian cancer I went 13 solid months going back and forth to the Dr for chronic infections. A cure would cause another illness. I was tested for every everything "BUT" cancer. Many things I read were symptems I had....PLEASE DEMAND your Dr.s do a CA-125 (simple blood test) it tests for ovarian protiens. Some Dr.s are reluctent to run it because horemones can affect the counts.....but if you insist and your counts are super high it should be a flag for your Dr so hopefully if it is that...you might stand a chance of surviving this silent killer!!
These days you have to be proactive! Good Luck!!

No, they said everything was normal. She's sending me to a gastro doctor now and a new gyn. She said she thinks either ibs or endo...so who the hell knows anymore!! My gyn says she has no answers and might send me to a pelvic pain specialist. I'm just frustrated with them all!!! Anything new with you?

I am seeing a pelvic pain specialist now.  He hasnt found the problem yet but he is at least trying.  At least he doesnt just give me antibiotics and send me home.   My symptoms were greatly improved after the surgery (for cysts and endo) and the month long antibiotic treatment (see older post) but now they are back - almost a year later.  I go back to him this week to try again.  The pelvic pain specialist has been great - much more interested than a regular gyn.  Good luck, I hope you find an answer.

Thanks for the posts!  I am scheduled for a cystoscopy tomorrow and am very nervous, not about the pain but the result!  I am also very concerned about the post regarding the ovarian cancer, as this has been my worst fear since the beginning of this.  I have had 2 ultrasounds external and tras-vaginal, and a CT of bladder and pelvis and both were unremarkable, and i think that ovarian cancer unlike bladder cancer is almost always associated with a tumor.  I am sick of the constant fear and 40hrs per week of looking things up on the internet.  I am very scared and am having trouble dealing as I have a young child and don't want to have something dangerous!  I have also been have this flakey white stuff in urine and occasionally some white mucus stuff that sometimes almost slows the urine flow to come out!  Has anyone had these symptoms.  From reading forums on IC I think alot of IC people have the stuff in urine.  I do not have any blood, or protein etc... on the last 4 urinalysis  (last one done about 3-4 weeks ago).  Although I have frequency, my biggest complaint as of late is the burning weird feeling in the urethra, usually after urinating and randomly otherwise.  Anyone have any suggestions or words of wisdom/solace, I need them about now.

Thank you

I also had the flakey things in urine and burning after urinating. My urologist said both of them are caused by vaginal dryness, I had a hard time believing that all those "flakey particles" came from dryness, but I've been using and estrogen cream she gave me for almost 2 months now and they are almost gone (I have to look very hard to see just tiny ones!) and I haven't had as much burning as I use to. She did say it can take up to 3 months for it to work, but tell your urologist as well and let me know if you get the same answer!! Good luck!

I have been having the same symptoms as everyone else, on and off for 8 years now. Sometimes I have an infection, sometimes I don't. We all know how frustrating this is! Had a cystoscopy (my 3rd) today and the dr found that the lining of my urethra was irritated due to a thinning of the lining. He is having me try vagifem, a vaginal tablet, 2x a week. Also, I had been taking vesicare for over a year and he told me to discontinue it. I will post my results when I know more.

Hi all, i too have similar symptoms over the last 3 years of UTI but my pain was so extreme i felt like i was in labour again. i would always take a ural and wait for the pain to subside...pain with intercourse, back pain, nausea, urine frequency, i also was diagnosed with a condition in 2005 called chronic daily headache syndrome so i put a lot of the symptoms to that but started worrying more this year after my dad was diagnosed with bowel cancer, liver cancer and bone and he passed away 5 weeks ago. I had a intervaginal unltrasound which found a complex left ovary cyst, the cyst is 6cm and another cyst inside that one is 2.2cm, i am awaiting results of the CA125 test today. my GYNO has scheduled me for surgery to have my left ovary removed weather cancerous or not the cysts are just to big and complex...i have also been unable to fall pregnant for over 3 years now, i have one beautiful 5yr old boy but would like another at some stage...i would also like to tell you about a condition that my mother suffers from called OVERACTIVE BLADDER alot of your symptoms are also similar to this condition and it can never be cured but there is medication for it that my mum takes a pill a day and it has eased her urgency and frequency to urinate, she says its a godsend so maybe some of you might like to look into that condition also. i am hoping after my surgery that my health goes back to normal again, i am only 26 and have been living with this for 3 years.

I just found out about a bacteria called ureaplasma that causes all these symptoms and you probably wont know you have it unless you are tested specifically for this bacteria. The main symptoms are the bladder issues/uti signs etc...You really have to ask to be tested for it to find out if you have it and if left untreated too long it can effect many other things in your reproductive tract. You just have to pee in a cup and they send it out!!! They are just realizing that at least 70% of adults have it, but only about 30% catch it! Just a thought!!!

Hello

I sympathize with all of you.  I have been experiencing bladder pressure and frequency since February.  It has disrupted my life.  I too spend time online trying to find out what's wrong.  My doctor did and ultrasound and told me I have 2 small fibroids and that is what is causing all this bladder pressure.  I  am having a hard time believing that these small fibroids can cause such bladder pressure.  I can't stop thinking about it most days.  It puts me in a bad mood and I have anxiety over it.  I  have 2 small children and keep thinking I have something worse.  I am embarassed to tell my gyne how much anxiety I have over this.  People just don't realize how the feeling of having to go pee all the time can drive you crazy.  I don't want to clean my house or do anything I used to. It's made me no fun.  My doc told me to wait a few cycles of my period and see if the symptoms improve.  I just want to be myself again.

Just yesterday I visited my GP for symptoms: frequent need to go, developed inability to hold, burning whilst peeing, abdominal pain, ovarian pain, kidney and flank pain, nausea, headaches, and discomfort during intercourse. Initial UTI test was negative (my dr said means nothing) and urine appeared healthy, however I am pending lab results. His best guess was that I have KIDNEY REFLUX (in my case resulting from frequent 'holding on' at work, not being allowed to leave my desk). REFLUX occurs when the urethra is weakened, allowing urinal backflow into the KIDNEY, which can cause all of these symptoms, with or without infection. 3 years ago I had an ultrasound for other reasons & recall being told that fluid was leaking into my kidney - at the time I was told this was of no consequence. Apparently reflux, can be congenital (normally resolving in childhood) or secondary causes of weakened urethra include prior/reoccuring UTI.

I am 27 years old and after my very first yeast infection ever in late March 2008 I have developed what feels like a UTI. I have constant bladder pain, urgency and frequency. My urinalysis and urine cultures all came back negative. My urethra is irritated and I experience clitoral pain as well. My gynecologist diagnosed me with vestibular adinitis (aka vulvodynia) but I believe mine is clitorodynia as well. Could anyone tell me, did your symptoms possibly begin after the onset of a yeast infection also?

I will visit my urologist next week to rule out Interstitial cystitis (IC), but I'm so confused at this point as to what is going on.... I take AZO Standard daily to help prevent pain.

I too have had all the problems most of you speak of. Mine started with a yeast infection and now a year later I have been diagnosed with chronic pelvic pain. I have seen many differant doctors. I have been helped the most by reading the book "A Headache in the Pelvis". I highly recommend this book. I do regular physical therapy and I am feeling better. It is a very slow process. I think alot of you will get answers from this book. Good Luck to all.

Hi all,
I was doing a google search on "bladder presure" and I found this site. I'm 34 female (from the US, never been preg, no children, weight was around 165), been with all the same symptoms as everyone else. It started with what felt like very bad craps one night all night i was laying on the bed in pain, went to family dr. they done ultra sound, found small cyst. then i went to my gym, all test came back fine, went back a few times with pains in my belly, She sent me for more ultra sounds, found cyst put me on birth control pills, still had the pain (waited afew months) then went back, she done more utlra sounds and viginal ultra sound and they found fibroids, weight was at 199, she told me she could put me on meds to force me into early mentapause (haven't done this yet), wouldn't give me much of anymore info, but suggested i go to a gast.dr., he sent me to do some blood work & a ct scan.

I have pictures of my CT scan (many) to share if anyone would like to see.

When i first meet him, i had done some reading on the internet, and i did ask for this CA125, He Laughted at me. Didn't say anything. I felt like I was stupid. He didn't do this test.
After the blood & CT test came back fine, I went back to the gyn to find out what do i do now. I'm having this horriable pain from my ovaries. She made me wait 1 hour in the waiting room and another 1 hour in the office room. Finally she comes in and she has nothing to offer me or suggest, but that i'm alittle overweight and i should go to this Gast. Dr ...  And i looked at her and told her she just sent me to him. I didn't want to go back to him he was very rude,, She was like Did I send you to him? .... At this point i felt hopeless, sad and depressed, confused...

I recently married a French citizen and we are living in France, once there we went to the Family, Gyn, then another Gast. where i allowed him to do a colonoscopy, we done the surgery and everything was fine. :/ I was really wishing they would find something and say " this is what you have and here is how we fix it" :/

A year and a half later since it first appeared i'm still here and now the blatter pressure is starting to get stronger.

I also would like to mention and see if anyone else has any pain in the lower back leg. Mine is showing some veins and ache with pain in the afternoon.
Also i'd like to add that in the past 6 months, my belly got big and now i have this big lovely stretch mark. :(  (My belly went down some but it coming back again)
Also my desire for sex is gone :( I use to have a very high desire for sex and it also hurts during sex.

Medication i'm on:

(regular medicine)
Seroplex®/Lexapro® for depression,
Ambien to sleep and it also helps with the Pain at night.

(medicine for my belly issue)
Macrogol 4000 (Forlax 10g): softens my stools
Trimebutin 200mg: For spasam

There is differnt images, from different views.
The paper the doctors wrote up reads:
Ct of the abdomen and pelvis without and with contrast.
Abdomen liver spleen are normal in size, gallbladder is normal, there is a small hiatal hernia. adrenal glads are normal. Normal Pancreas, Kidnesy are normal in size and configuration, demonstrating no hydronephrosis. ** then it say ** on image 29 Study demonstrates focal irregularity along the posterior cortex of the right kidney mid portion, tthat likely represents a scar from prior inflammation. No other abnormalities are seen in the kidney.
The stud shows uterus that a slightly irregular uppearance suggestive of multiple heterogeneous in appearance fibroids. There is normal appearance of the left adnexa and left ovary. On the right side the study suggest the presence of an ovarian cyst.

Alos the Pelvic Ultrasound Says atleast 2 Fibroids measure 2.2x1.7x2.5 and within the lower uterine segment thier is a 2.5x2.1x3.8 cm fibriod.

I don't mind sharing my images if it would help someone maybe could compare their own to help someone somehow. email: janesarah08(@)gmail(dot)com

I was given Bactrum by my urologist twice a day for two weeks. This took all the pain completely away after about 10 days on the medication. However, once it was finished the pain slowly started again. I went back to my urologist and he diagnosed me with Urethral Syndrome. I am unsure this is a correct diagnosis since the pain seems to go away when I'm on medication. Because my urinalysis and urine cultures keep coming back negative, it is very hard to get a doctor to perscribe bacterial medication.

Questions: My urologist found 0.1% blood in my urine and said a tiny amount such as this could be normal, does anyone agree? I always thought any amount of blood found in urine was a sign of something more serious.

I am getting married in 4 months so you can imagine how upsetting it is that this all just started. We want to have children immediately, can anyone tell me if IC or Urethral Syndrome could cause infertility?

by Hayley723, Jun 12, 2008 10:33AM
To: Jamie1023
So far, they say it doesn't affect fertility. I had very small blood in urine as well, and at first was told it's "normal" which I didn't believe. Later they found a bacterial infection, which was treated (prob way too late), and now I'm told it's IC. So don't settle for no answers, they say 90% of people who are told their blood in urine is normal, end up finding out it was caused by something later on when it's gotten out of control!! Being that it's such a small amount though, try not to freak out, because it's definitely not life threatening, but you deserve answers!! Good luck!

by annekdav, Jun 15, 2008 10:24PM
Hey guys.

Glad to know i'm not alone. I know no one seems to have any definitive answers... but i think i'll feel better if i just put this out there to other people going through the same thing as me. I need to speak to someone who can understand.

I noticed a lot of you have said you feel like you are going crazy, or are worried people think you're making it up or that it is all in your head. I'm at the point now where I'm even starting to question if it's in my head. I'm really depressed and I'm worried that people think the same things of me. I've only had it a month - some of you have had it much, much longer. My heart really goes out to you, but at the same time i feel no comfort in knowing that I may end up the same way.

I've had frequent urination for a month now. This is the start of my 5th week. No trace of UTI or other bacterial infections. No STDs. Vaginal swabs came back normal. I've had blood work done, and nothing presented out of the ordinary. I just had pelvic and renal ultrasounds. The woman at the time it was being done said she spotted nothing unusual. I pick them up in two hours and i prey they've found something. Anything.

My symptoms - I woke up a month ago, with an intense urge to urinate. Just out of the blue. Although I did note that, the night before, I had gone to the toilet and my urine smelt sort of like... chicken. But only that one time. Once i did urinate, the urge didn't go away. I felt like I couldnt fully void my bladder, although I had. I naturally assumed this was a UTI, given the smell and urge to urinate. But that has turned out not to be the case. Although they found no UTI, she still put me on antibiotics just to be sure. They had no effect. White blood cells show up in my urine but thats about it.

My urine smells normal now and i experience absolutely no pain what so ever. There is no sign of infection. I can pass urine normally, it's just i always feel like i really need to go. Some days it is better, other days it is worse. I have noticed it gets worse some evenings. I also experience nausea some evenings, and severe fatigue, although it seems to have subsided. I am not pregnant and have done several pregnancy tests to be sure.

I do experience back ache. Like muscle ache - it seems to change place on my back, I cant really pinpoint it. Some days it feels like my whole back, others its distinctly upper back, other days it's lower. At one stage I had all over muscle ache. My chest is also quite sore, like muscle ache, and my breasts are tender and sore. At each side of my breasts, under my arms, it is really sore. The muscle ache really runs me down and everything seems like too much effort.

Well, after seeing three Urologists and two Gynecologist I finally figured out what my problem was... an ovarian cyst - in particular a hemorrhagic cyst, which tend to grow larger and can press against the bladder causing pain and frequest urination.

I am sharing this with everyone because this discovery came after being diagnosed with Vestibular Adinitis and Urethral Syndrome - neither of which I ever believed I had. After doing much research online I learned that other health problems like ovarian cysts, ovarian cancer, endometriosis, fibroids, muslce tension, etc. can cause urinary like symptoms. I took all my research into my "second opinion" Gynecologist and asked for a pap smear, a vaginal culture, std testing, pelvic exam, and ultrasound. I have to say, you cannot expect these doctor's to do all the work. You are the only one who knows your body! It is best to research your issues and pass the information you learned onto the physician. I did this with each new doctor I saw and I was thanked more than once for writing it all down.

I first started out at my Urologist who reviewed my urinalysis and urine cultures, did a muscle tension exam, and prescribed UTI antibiotics. After about three weeks I was able to tell the medication was not making a difference and finally could put to rest the thought of a UTI. I considered attending physical therapy, but was told I did not need it. After all bases were covered, that is when I began to look at the gynecologist issues.

I can sympathize with everyone out there who is dealing with these symptoms. It took me 13 weeks to narrow down the problem and to be honest I thought I had ovarian cancer because it sounded a lot like what I was experiencing. DO NOT give up hope, there are answered for you out there and you deserve them! I was to thank Hayley723 for telling me I deserved to know what was wrong - because it made me fight harder to find an answer! Do the research, find the best doctors you can through recommendations online or given by family/friends, and stay positive! Even doctor's make mistakes, if you think their diagnosis is wrong, there is no rule about seeking out all other issues just to be sure. Even in the extreme pain I was experiencing I knew it could always be worse. Take care everyone!

wow.
I finally feel like I am not alone, nor crazy. thank you everyone for sharing.
My history begins with chronic UTI 's since 19. I am now 33 and have not had a diagnosed UTI in about 10 years, but over the past 7-8 months I have had constant bladder pressure (for the past 10 years it has been mild to severe, now it is constantly severe).

My stomach has gone from firm and toned to constantly bloated, I have gained 30 pounds and people ask me "how far along are you?"
The exercise that used to keep my belly firm has no effect.

My abdomin (abdomen) feels swollen, I do not like it being touched because any pressure on it is uncomfortable. I lost my sex drive completley and it is VERY painful to have intercourse...my boyfriend has been very supportive but it is tearing him up inside, I do not know how much longer he can take it!

I have gone to the doctor for my UTI symptons, always clear, with the white blood cell count being a little more then usual, I have had hormonal testing, full physicals, std testing,  blood samples for just about everything, and last week I had a pelvic ultrasound because when my doctor was doing a pap, I was in SO much pain, she could barely finish, in fact she did not finish, she said she could not get to my right ovary....HHHmmm?
so I went to the ultrasound, and I had to urinate so many times while trying to hold the water in...finally the lab tech sent me out during the exam to relieve 3/4 of the urine because she said i was so tense from trying to hold my urine in that she could not do the exam on my belly because I was pushing it out to try and combat the pressure of the ultrasound device.
They have not called me back. i am supposed to believe that this is a good thing.

When she was doing the  ultrasound exam (after I had emptied my bladder) she too could not get a clear picture of my right ovary. I am intrigued by this and wonder of it is part of the mystery.

I used to get Kidney aches, and always try to keep my kidneys extra warm in winter, (i tie a scarf around my upper waist, because I heard that it may help)
I live my life around how often i need to urinate, it affects everything I do, and it is making me irratable, depressed and anxious. My co workers can not believe I need that many bathroom breaks, but every time I pee it is ALOT, and within 15 - 45 minutes I have to go again. It always feels full. I can always pee.

after reading all of these posts I have made a list to try and force my doctor to test me for all the things that could possibly be the source of this painful reality. thank you all and I wish you well! I will update you...
and i think it is important for all of us with SUCCESS STORIES to make sure we follow up on this forum, to give others hope that there are ends in sight....
thanks
be well

I have found some relief so I wanted to post in case it might help someone else.  My history is in another post on this same topic if anyone is interested.  Basically, Ive had UTI symptoms for about 14 years, off and on, but almost constant for the past few months.  But no infection.  I did have surgery a year ago to remove cysts and severe endo was found but I had no idea.  I have no symptoms of that.  I was ok for a few months after taking 30 days of Bactrim DS and then the UTI symptoms were back.

I see a Pelvic Pain Specialist now for this problem.  He put me on Bactrim DS twice a day for ten days and then one every night, INDEFINITELY.  He gave me refills for a year.  He also gave me UTA capsules which are similar to Pyridium in that they are for the pain and discomfort but they also have an ingredient for bladder spasms.  They work MUCH better than Pyridium for me.  I started the Bactrim about 6 weeks ago and I havent had any pain or discomfort in about 3-4 weeks.  I know that taking antibiotics all the time is controversial.  Most drs worry about resistance but I was so miserable that I dont care about resistance.  I now have a normal life.

I know that the OC board members probably hate this topic being on this board but somehow it ended up here and I couldnt find it if it moved now.  I know it is off the topic of ovarian cancer and it is an old topic and they hate when those pop up.  I came across it when I was preparing for surgery for ovarian cysts and was worried about possible OC.  In case it disappears, anyone is welcome to email me about this stuff at ***@****.

I've had frequent urination on and off (mostly on!) for almost 8 years now.... I have a simple cyst around 3.5 cm..apparently small by comparison to some...  but the specialist and dr don't see this as a problem with the bladder pressure.  I've been doing all the exercises to "strengthen" the pelvic floor as they seem to think it is a weak bladder that is causing the problem of frequent urination.... . but after doing the "strengthening exercises"... this does nothing to reduce the pain and the bloating... so I think that the problem stemmed from the pain of the bloating and pressure on the bladder consequently causing me gradually to urinate more than is necessary.  I'm sure the drs seem to think it's all psychological (but the look of my bloated stomach tells me otherwise !) .... my stomach feels like a balloon ready to pop most of the day, sometimes waking up it is very painful.  I am waiting to go back to get another scan to see if the cyst has reduced or remained the same, because the pressure on bladder is not reducing.

I have actually read about interstitial cystitis; this is possible a contributing factor, but I also have pain where the cyst is and it gives me very sharp and radiating pains also down to the thigh....so I wonder if this is contributing to the pressure as well...

I have recently been feeling a lot of pressure on my bladder. It doesn't go away and I feel like I should be able to go to the bathroom more than what I actually do.. but just can't. I had a ruptured cyst about two years ago on my ovary. do you think it could be related?

i have recently been feeling alot of pressure on my bladder, the need for constant empting the bladder and discomfort, sometimes even nausea, i have also been feeling tired. I have had a ovarian cyst removed 2 years ago which was 6cm, so i am having a altrasound tomorrow to see if it is ovarian cysts, the altra sound should also pick up anything else. I cant believe alot of women have the same discomforts and doctors dont pick it up, i have learnt if you want something done, any test or scan you need to ask the doctor or you may not get it.

Hi, pressure on the bladder can be caused by fibroids. I had 3 large fibroids and my uterus was the size of a 16 week pregnancy. i also had leukocytes(white blood cells) showing in my urine but no bacterial infection.I also suffered with constipation and back ache.A ultrasound would pick up fibroids and it makes sense to have this test first before being referred down the urology route.I ended up having a hysterectomy.
If symptoms persist keep going back to your GP until something is done, you know your body better than anyone else!

OMGosh....I AM NOT ALONE!!! Thank you all for your posts and sharing your stories.  I have had bladder pressure and bloating and urethral discomfort for over 3 months now.

I had a UTI in June (arrived on my 25th wedding anniversary).  I was on Macrobid, but the pressure was still unreal after 4 days so I went on 3 days of Cipro.  Still huge pressure.  My dr. thought my uterus was enlarged and sent me to get an ultrasound - they found nothing.  I think what she thought was my uterus was actually an inflammed bladder.  She sent me to a gyn & a uro.  Gyn said I am perfectly healthy.  Uro says it's just my UTI having trouble clearing up.  I was on Vesicare for a bit.  He says it is not IC as my white count is normal.

I have followed the IC diet though, which has helped a lot - so some of you might want to try it.  It was really hard to give up coffee, fruit, alcohol, chocolate - but when it makes your symptoms better it is worth it.  I also have used a heating pad (sometimes I sit on it, sometimes I put it on my lower abdomen) or an ice pack (same).  I think that takes the swelling down of the bladder (that is why you get the pregnant look).  If you google the IC network you can find the diet pretty quickly.

I pray that we all find answers and relief!

Okay, this is for others who are searching for answers about this topic.  I had my hormone levels checked and my estrogen is way low so I am now on estrogen supplements (vaginal).  I did some research online and here is some info I found.

Low estrogen

Low estrogen starves genitourinary tissues, leading to fragility, dryness and reduced resistance to infection. This would show up as pain or even bleeding with intercourse, excessive vaginal tightness, failure of vaginal incisions to heal, vaginal or labial itching and pain (especially upon washing with soaps), multiple vaginal infections like yeast or repeated urinary tract infections, sensations of urinary tract infection without bacterial growth, and weakening of genitourinary tissues leading to incontinence (involuntary leaking of urine, especially with "urge," laughing or sneezing) or prolapse ("falling").

I wish I had seen this ages ago as I have the vaginal pain and the sensations of uriary tract infections without bacterial growth.  It would have saved me 4 months of searching for a solution to my issues!  Anyway, I have been on the estrogen only 4 days now, and I think it is a bit early to tell if it is making a difference or not, so I'll keep you posted.

I had these symptoms, sudden consistent pressure on bladder, and they found a huge fibroid that had been growing for many years, and took it out.  They dont' always show up on ultrasounds right away.  The fact that some of you have not been checked for this is unusual.  An ultrasound can show it, but at different times of the month, it hides.  They are almost always benign and don't always have to be removed.  See a better doctor if no one has suggested this.  Thanks!

Hi everyone,

I've only really browsed this topic.  I had ongoing bladder pressure for over two years with frequent bladder infections and many antibiotic treatments. I was constantly in pain and having to go pee. Eventually I got an ultrasound and they said nothing was wrong.  I totally recommend getting any and every test you can for your health and piece of mind.

In the end I went to a naturopath. I told her my story. She gave me super-potent acidopholous and another treatment called D-Manos.  Her perspective was that all the antibiotics I was taking for the bladder infections were cleaning out the good bacteria which meant I was more susceptible for another infection.  I was a bad cycle.  I did the naturopathic treatments and my infections never returned.  I do feel that my bladder is still irritable and have found it is linked to my diet (caffeine, sugar, alcohol).    I'm still not entirely satisfied with my bladder's condition and this thread makes me think I should be taking bladder pressure more seriuosly but I do recommend seeing a Naturopath at some point if no illness has been detected and you're doctor is unsure what is wrong.

Hi everyone

Now that I am reading everyone's posts I don't feel so alone in this matter.  Last year in June I started experiencing UTI symptoms went and got my urine tested 3 times all negative and each time they gave me antibiotics and same thing, it didn't work.  They tested me for diabetes and STD's and all negative again.  I finally requested a ultrasound and they found cysts and fibroids, and stated that is why I must of had monthly painful periods.  So, I adjusted my diet and did what I could and symptoms slowly went away.  During this time I was also working a job that caused a lot of STRESS and thought perhaps this might be making it worse?  Well, ended up quitting that job and started a new one.  Then a month after I started this new job, I started feeling symptoms again, like I had a UTI.  I went to the doctor they tested my urine and for diabetes and all negative, then asked them to test my hormone level and nothing??  I then asked for another ultrasound, during the ultrasound she said there was no cyst it was gone?  Why am I still feeling like my bladder has so much pressure?  Is it a fibroid?  So frustrated, going back to the doctors to get another ultrasound to check again to see if it is a fibroid pushing on my bladder.

I am so glad I found this site. I am 25 mother of 2 no health problems until all of this. Jan 15 2009 I had my annual exam and the doctor didn’t notice any thing five days later I started vomiting and had diarrhea, I thought I had gotten the stomach bug my husband and daughter had. After 5 hours my husband took me to the ER I was so weak I couldn’t walk. I had urine and blood test and the doctor said my white blood count was really high and I had a bad bladder infection so I had a bag of IV antibiotics and 2 bags of fluid bc I was so dehydrated. The next day I was fine and I didn’t understand how I could have had a bladder infection w/o pain much less a “really bad one” with out any symptoms. Five days later I stared having a dull pain in my lower back and side then came the frequent urination then SEVERE pain and feeling like I needed to pee nonstop. When I would go to the bathroom I would pee A LOT not just a little so I made another doctors apt and was told I had a small amount of blood in my urine still and was put on another kind of antibiotic for 10 days and given tramadol for pain. After 6 different types of antibiotics and being on antibiotic for 3 months the doctor told me I probably just had a vaginal infection from all of the antibiotics I had been taking and told me to go see my OB/GYN.  I never went bc I don’t have insurance and they wouldn’t bill me and they said it would cost $250+ to be seen so I called my family doctor back and since I am not working right now bc of a layoff (my husband was laid off form his job 2 weeks after I was) and since money is low right now and no jobs in town she called me in more pain med and some amitriptyline (is also for depression and is used to ease chronic pain with IC) after I started my second month the bladder pain went away but I was still left with the frequent urination. So here I am 7 months after it all started with more frequent urination, weight, gain, cramps, knife, stabbing pain off and on in my left ovary, and spotting to bleeding off and on more often after sex. I am on seasonique and I am wondering if maybe I have a cyst now. Can you get cyst while taking birth control? I have been on this pill for over a year and never had these knife stabbing pains in my left ovary... never spotted ....after my 1st pack my periods went form 7 days to 1 to 2 days.. BUT on week 5 of the pack I am on now I started having these pains and spotting/bleeding off and on so I have waited to see if it would go away and it hasn’t now I am on week 13 and the pain is starting to get worse. I have been doing exercise in hopes it would ease the cramps and now I have caused pain in my left hip lol I m just wondering when this will end.......my husband is at a temp job that pays the bills and buys groc but I cant work bc we have 2 small kids and daycare for the both of them would be more than min wage would pay me here. I am still staying at home with them and w/o me working I have no ins and no xtra money to go to the doctor. My mom took care of my kids before I got laid off but she has had prob with her heart since then and she is afraid to take care of them now bc she is afraid she may have a heart attach while she has them. I have family planning medicaid that covers 1 exam a year and my birth control so I can’t use it again until after Jan 15 2010. I am starting to get scared. I am thinking about going to the ER it may cost me more and at our hospital they have financial  aid based on income and family size that will cover part of the cost. I have had to use it once before and my ER bill was $1000 and they paid $300 of it, then they just bill you the rest and as long as you make a payment of at least $10 a month they don’t hound you for the money. Im just glad that I know that other ppl are going thru the same thing that I am and I know Im not a freak for having pain like this. I am glad I have something to show my husband bc he doesn’t understand how I in the beginning I was going to the dr once a week and she couldn’t find a cure for it and how I can have so much wrong with me at one time. My husband NEVER gets sick the last time he was sick was 6 yes SIX years ago. He is one of the lucky healthy ones he just doesn’t understand how one person can be sick all the time. He read the articles on here and now I think he realizes Im not making it up and I am having more than one prob and I am not alone.

To: Ann1984,
I think the UTI and the vomiting attack was so connected, as there is organisms that may cause both of them simultaneously and the most famous example is E.Coli.
And because of the fluid you lost in these attack you were not able to walk and once replaced you was OK , and urinary symptoms may be delayed till organism multiply enough to cause it and these called asymptomatic bacterurea, blood in urine is also expected with cystitis(bladder inflammation) so don't panic.
and about antibiotics the course for UTI should continue at least 15 days of Amoxicillin or Cephalosporin, and within you should eat well especially vegetables and fruit for antioxidants and vitamins, meat for metabolism and rebuilding your immune system and fluids as much as you can drink to increase your diuresis and urine output.
And about your left (ovarian) pain, all hormonal contraceptive pills that suppress ovulation including Seasiquine is concisly decrease the risk for ovarian cyst and neoplasms(cancer) as well, but you could repeat Ultrasonography for more assurance, contraceptive pills too increase vaginal acidity due to estrogen content which is protecting against a lot of organisms including E-coli there is exceptions (like monilia but it's characterized by itching and whitish thick discharge) and for spotting explaination it could be explained by pills to as it causes (cervical erosion) that cause the contact bleeding. but for more assurance you could make cervical (Pap) smear. I suspect these pain and bleeding are due to pelvic congestion because of the UTI which i think is not erradicated completly so you can relief the PAIN not the DISEASE by (Glycerine Icsthiol pessaries) it really helps so much, you can search the web for its trade name in your country and use it put you MUST relief the cause of congestion which i think is INFECTION. you could use antispasmodic like Buscuban too.
MY BEST WISHES OF RAPID CURE.

after reading all these comments, I noticed so many of us have seen doctor after doctor, with no cure, just recommendations of more meds and more tests. I have been thru the same thing, spending so much money on dr. visits, to get answers that never found what the prob was. the drugs only cover the symptoms not solve the problem. the end of last year i had a urinary tract infection needing 2 consecutive doses of antibiotics. this whole year , i have had bloating, gas, stomach pains, chills- one doc wanted me to take mylanta, another recommended dozens of tests and more drugs. i started paying attention to when the symptoms occurred and what i was eating that day. as i eliminated certain foods, the symptoms started disappearing. I stopped eating beans and the gas pains stopped. i stopped eating walnuts and almonds and the stomach pains stopped. the day after i went to doc, complaining of daily diarehea(his answer was take this drug and lets run all these tests), i stopped eating peanuts and the diarehea immediately stopped. the other symptom was frequent urination, and soreness in the bladder area. i couldnt sleep thru an entire night, because every few hours i was waking up to pee. i had been eating alot of tangerines(citric acid), i stopped those and it seems the urinary frequency has slowed down. today i ate alot of onions and immediately got the soreness back in my bladder and the need to pee.
i think you should definitely consult with dr's if you are experiencing problems, but if you go to dr after dr and still don't get answers, then you need to be your own doctor. take a look at your diet, maybe there are certain foods that are irritating your insides, maybe the drugs you are taking are causing problems. the dr's i went to were  not trained to ask nutrition or lifestyle questions. if the doctor had just asked what i was eating, instead of prescribing drugs or tests he might have realized it was the peanuts causing the diarehea.

Wow, I have been reading everyones comments and feel better knowing that there are others with similar issues. Bad that not all have found answers.I think all of the reasons can be valid ,maybe not the same answer for everyone. It woould be nice to have someone say yes this is what is wrong do this and then thats it. I have had UTI's all my life off and on when Iittle for a few years and then not again until I was almost an adult17-18. Probably about the time I met my husband of almost 20 years now.I would have symptoms  and sometimes there was infection and sometimes not. The urologist had me on a long term antibiotic for a while after I had my children when they seemed to be flaring up again. It seemed to help a few years later I had a kidney stone that was lodged and they surgically removed. Off and on I would get them but nothing constant. So about a year ago I started having pressure on my bladder and of course thought UTI. went to the Dr. and it was negative the pain went away and soon after went for my yearly and everything was fine but I kepy getting pressure and occasional discomfort on my left lower side like in the inside crook of your leg . So tested for another UTI aound Dec. this time positive. So I am thinking wow maybe I had a really mild one all that time took the meds. and it went away . For a bit. Finally in Feb. took myself to the ER. They did a CT scan and said we think you have a fibriod. Ok that would explain the pressure . So we were in the middle of moving and when we got settled in went to my new gyn and she did an external and internal ultrasound which showed not fibroid but a large chocolate ovarian cyst which I thought was funny. 9cm at the time . they removed it laproscopically july 27th it was 17 cm by 8cm at that point. wow I know. she said everything else looked good . she biopsied it which was benign which she was 99 % sure it was anyway. Everything else looked really healthy . the pressure on my bladder is not all the time now or the frquency but is still an issue . She said my bladder was not prolapsed and they did an ultrasound of it also and looked good. she said it might take some time since my bladder was being really pushed on. And I might have a sensitive bladder. It definetley seems worse around or prior to my period. She said if it does not improve we could do the test where they fill your bladder , but she wanted to wait a bit. Excersising also I am not extremely heavy but do have some extra.which will add pressure. So I did not really say anything profound but people that have not had this issue do not understand even if they are understanding. Any comments are welcome . the posting about the marshallo roots was interesting. Thanks

I too have bladder pressure and have off and on. I've been diagnosed with a low GFR and have compromised kidney function, and I thought that that was causing my urge to urinate. But I was told it wasn't low enough to cause these symptoms so I had many other tests done. It wasn't until I had a gyn internal exam that my doctor discovered that I had a rectocele. This is like a herniation inside when your colon presses on your uterus, vagina and bladder. It is very common for women who have had children and/or are going through menopause. It is especially noticeable when I am constipated and the stool backs up this causes pressure on the internal organs. I also have low back pain and left side abdominal pain. It is all extremely annoying. There is surgery that can correct a severe rectocele and also there is a ring that can be worn inside the vagina that props up the colon. If anyone out there has had children even at any age this can happen. If you are experiencing these symptoms but your UTIs are coming back normal as well as ovarian CTs,etc, get checked out for this problem. It can be very painful as well as very aggravating!!

i feel like im crazy, if i hadnt had 3 blood test saying i am begitive for preganacy hormone i would believe I am nine months pregnant.  An no im not exagerating.  Swollen tender breats, occsional fluuter and pressure in abdomin (abdomen), i am a plus size woman so i can hide a prgnancy but it appears to people i am pregnant.  I have recently in the last two weeks become frquent urges to pee and pressure .  I feel things move in my abdomin (abdomen), some say its gas but it feels like a jab and rolling.  Ps i have had 2 children to term and just feel crazy, they are going to do a biopsy for uterine cancer but no one will listen to me to look at the region above my hips, preganacy would be fine but not choice at this time of life since the childrnes dad has been gone almosyt nine months, so i dont think its one of those cases where you want it so bad your body mimicks it.  PS i am very uncomfortable cannot lay on my stomach it feels like a watermelon is in there.  Back ache, occasional cramps that radiate around from my back, i just want to know what to look for so i can suggest things to my dr.'s who all seem to think im just a whiner who is overweight and i should lose wight and it will go away.  I am overweight and need to lose it but come on what does that have to do with all the uncomforatble pain and pressure.

I have been having severe sharp pains in my vagina and rectum for the past two weeks. Urine Tests and Swaps have come back normal. Now I am having a pressure feeling in my bladder, everytime I pass urine, and when laying down on my stomach. What could be causing this? I have polysystic ovarian syndrome and insulin resistant pancreas but am not taking any meds for them. Any help ladies? I hate having repeat visits to my doctors and I don't see my endo. til March. I am 21 years old.

Hi, I've been having pressure in my bladder since the beginning of Oct. I went to the ER then and there was no infection. I am constantly having to use the bathroom, when this first started i also had burning an itching. Then it went away  for a few weeks an came back. Without the burnung and itching I have alittle bit of pain in my back but that's not unusal for me.This constant urge to use the bathroom is driving me nuts. Does anyone know what ths could be?
