I've been experiencing clear and yellowish discharge from both my nipples, on and off for the past few days, i am currently on the ortho evra patch, this will be my 4th month. Is this a common side effect? Should I be worried?

Abstinance.. LOL Just kidding. Seriously though, I think it depends on the person. Smokers and those prone to blood clots shouldn't use the pill, or patch..  So it would depend on your history, lifestyle, etc.. Get with your doctor to see what is right for you personally.

Tinker>> I copied and pasted this info from a website. Look below for a post titled "Birth Control Lawsuit" for more info. Hope this helps.--J

Ortho Evra Birth Control linked to Blood Clots, Strokes, Heart Attacks
Call 1-866-886-5529 toll free to have a lawyer contact you for a free case evaluation.

A consumer fraud class action lawsuit is currently being investigated against Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceutical, Inc., the manufacturer of the Ortho Evra birth control patch. The investigation concerns whether Ortho-McNeil has failed to disclose that the risks of adverse health events such as blood clots, stroke or heart attacks are greater for women using the patch than for women using birth control pills.

The Allegations Regarding this Potentially Fatal form of Birth Control
On Sunday July 17th, 2005 The Associated Press reported that they were aware of at least a dozen women, most in their late teens and twenties who passed away last year due to blood clots that are believed to be related to the use of the Ortho Evra Patch. Dozens more allegedly survived strokes and other clot related health issues according to 16,000 federal drug reports filed with the FDA and obtained through the Freedom of Information Act. In fact, API found 23 different fatalities associated with the patch, but the primary cause of death in each case was not always clear.

Heartbreaking Tragedies
It appears that these cases are incredibly tragedies for the families involved. In one case, a 25 year old woman had a stroke and was placed in the Intensive Care Unit, where her condition was so fragile that her family was unable to speak or touch her in any way because even the slightest amount of stimulation could create a fatal level of pressure on the brain.

Despite this, after days of horrible headaches that the coroner stated were brought on by the use of the hormones in Ortho-Evra, this beloved sister, daughter and wife passed away. They never got to touch their loved one or speak to her again after the stroke, a scenario that

Thanx for all your advice, The birth control method that I discontinued was Ortho Evra (the patch) and I have never had any breast discharge while using the patch before. Also, I'm off the patch because I heard that 15 females died while using Ortho Evera. Has anyone heard more info. on those death claims?? Please respond, thanx. Tinkerpoo.

I had the same thing when I was on Depo.  I was told the exact same thing -- depo makes your body think you are pregnant.  Once I was off of it, the discharge quit.

More than likely everything is fine.  I would not worry.

Take care,

Amanda

I had discharge from my breats a couple of years ago and when i told my gyno about it she told me that  when your on depo your body feels as if you are pregnant and that this could sometimes cause your breats to lactate a little . Please let me know if she lead me the wrong way . Ive been tested not ultrasound but the palm test for breast cancer. Would you suggest that I get a ultrasound ? Im only 21 .

Cancer is genetic yes, but not always.  you can be the first one to start it.  It has to start somewhere.  Age doesn't matter either or sex.  Men get it too.  Please go and see a doctor and get an ultrasound.  They will be able to tell you if it is a lump or a cyst.  Don't take any chances with soemthing that could be very serios.  A rare form of breast cancer called paget's didease starts on the outside of the nipples.

Thanx for the response. I have not seen the "discharge" myself, but my husband "felt" it a couple nights ago. The gyno. said that it may be just a cyst in my left breast because the little round thing moves when it's felt and also because I'm 23 years old and breast cancer does not run in my family. How likely is it that the "cyst" given my circumstances is cancerous? Also, to the person w/ the friend w/ her breast removed, how old is she and does cancer run in her family? Thanx again to all of you.

I had slight breast discharge before and it turned out I had a pituitary tumor that had to be surgically removed. I would notify your doctor so they can order the approp tests.

Please go to the dr asap!!!!!!!!! A girlfriend of mine had discharge from her breast a year ago and thought nothing of it. A year later she was diagnosed with breast cancer! On Monday night she had both her breasts removed and they also discovered that she has it her lymph nodes. The doctor told her that leakage from her breast was a early sign so please go ASAP!!!!!
