hi, if anyone knows about the colposcopy exam...help me!!!
i got a annual papPap smear Pap smears and cervical cancer test done and my obgyn called back to let me know that i had to come back to see her to have a colposcopy beause my atypia cells were of undetermined significance..
and that if something needed treatment they would call me back in 2 or 3 weeks.. she did explain that IT DOES NOT MEAN its cancerous cells but that it could just be infection, or pre cancerous cells or hpv and maybe even nothing that it could be just a change in the cells. so basically i am a littleLittle noses decongestant Little tummys freaked out by the weit.. anyone been through this. and one thing thats got me worried and that i forgot to ask my gyn is could this prevent me from having a pregnancy??? thanks
it will not affect your fertility at all!! I had one once. It might pinch a wee bit as they take a piece of your cervix, but you'll be okay. most likely it will not be severe enough to require the laser surgery, especially if you have always had normalNormal saline flush smears. after my colonscopy, which came back fine, my papPap smear Pap smears and cervical cancer smears went back to normalNormal saline flush as well.
hey...just went through the same thing ~ and my nurse definitely freaked me out and led me to believe i was going to end up with cervical cancer...i went to a great doctor in NYC and had the colposcopy ~ didn't hurt, just a littleLittle noses decongestant Little tummys pressure...and he let me know that i need to come back every 4 months for a pap...if there are more abnormal cells found - then we do another colposcopy...most times the abnormal cells clear themselves (as in my case / and the colposcopy comes back fine)...if not then you have the choice to have them removed by laser or surgically removed depending on the type of cervical lesions. My doctor told me that 4 out of 5 women have the hpv virus (that leads to abnormal paps) and most never even know because their bodies actively fight it off...and they don't end up with abnormal paps. You should be fine...just make sure you continue to get your paps regularly & stay on top of things. Best of luck...
I had one done as well.It felt to me during the prodecure just to be a prolonged pap test. A small discomfort is all I felt. They use tiny itty bitty scissors on very long thin handles to snip bits of those abnormal cells off. I spotted slighty the rest of the afternoon. It turned out I had precancerous cells. I then had what was called a cone biopsy of my cervix where they sort of scrape off the bad stuff. I was under general anesthesia for the procedure. I bled for approximately 2 days afterward just very lightly though. I was not able to have sex for 2 weeks as well as no soaking in the tub, showers only.My next pap came back clean. Also all the bad stuff removed was only PREcancerous, we caught it in plenty of time . My gyno gave me a clean bill of health ( after 4 clean pap tests) and no problems since then. It's important to continue to have regular pap tests afterward to be certain everything has returned to normal. Don't fret over this procedure it is only precautionary and if something does turn up you will have caught it in time before something serious is wrong. And just to ease your worries this colposcopy will NOT ruin any chance of having children.Good Luck, keep us posted to your progress.
I actually got the results from my colposcopy today and i have pre-cancerous cells i was told that my doctor would be taking them out soon.... so YES I AM FREAKED OUT!!!!!
