I was always told by doctors, sex ed teachers, gynos...etc that if you really dont want to get pregnant you should always use 2 forms of birth control....now i won't lie i don't follow this advice myself, but seeing as how Im 23 and now ready for a child i probably should...better to be safe

Yeah it takes a month to start working.

You should have  been told that the first month there is still a risk. If you just started there is a chance that you ovulated before hand. If that is the case you could still fall pregnant.

Birth control as the only form of contraception is never trustworthy anyway, especially if you wouldn't be able to handle it. My mother got pregnant with me on the pill because she forgot that antibiotics stop the pill from working, and my stepmother got pregnant with her two daughters just from being stressed and her stress taking its toll on the pill's contraceptive effects at that time in her life. Scary stuff

Nope. Birth control takes the better part of a month or longer to become effective in your body. You should have been told to use condoms the entire time. Wait 2-3 weeks and take a pregnancy test with first morning urine.
