i went to see the nurse today (see my other question on the 27th of march) and she said i have to have an internal examination, and blood testing and also i may have cysts on my overies, what tests do they carrie out for this examination too see if u have cysts?
i think they are also doing the blood tests because i've also has servere pain in the bottom of my stomch, i'm really worried about what they are gonna do, i'm 27 and never had a smear test, but i spoke to the nurse about it and she explained some things to me so i feel abit calmer about them, btw whats a transvaginal ultrasound? is it internal or external?
also, the nurse said i haven't stopped bleeding when i go back on the 24th the doctor will do an internal examination, what will he do u think??
sorry but i'm relly scared about it
A transvaginal u/s sound is internal. They will put in this tampon size stick into your vagina to look at your ovaries, uterus, etc. It can be a little uncomfortable but for me it is because I have a retroverted/tilted uterus so it took them a while of manoevering to find my ovaries. They allowed me to put in the stick into my vagina when they started so that helped a lot. For the manual exam, they will have you lie down on a table and insert a spectculum into your vagina and check your cervix. After, the doc will take the spectculum out and insert a finger into your vagina while pressing on your tummy to feel your ovaries. It isn't painful you will just feel a lot of pressure. Just try to relax because the more tense you are the more uncomfortable it can be. It helps to ask a close friend or your mom to come with you to hold your hand. Don't worry everything will be fine. Let us know how it goes.
I read your post on Mar27 about the two periods in one month. That is exactly what I had in Jan. They were 2 weeks apart as well and once they did the u/s's they discovered I had a cyst on my left ovary. So it is normal to have irregular periods when you have a cyst. Cyst's are normal I've been told. Every month when you ovulate the egg that is released comes out of a cyst. Normally what happens is that when the egg is released the cyst disintegrates but sometimes it doesn't and that is why a cyst forms. Most of the time the cyst disappears after a couple of cycles. So unless the doc is worried I wouldn't get too upset. I know I was quite upset when I 1st found out also because the word 'cyst' sounds dreadful but for me it disappeared after 1 cycle. There is a lot of information on the we on cysts so do some research and it will ease you mind. Take care!
I had a cyst that caused unusual periods also. It is very common and is, as another person mentioned, the casing of a released egg. Sometimes the empty follicle folds over on itself and does not fade away like usual. My doctor said it may also be producing progesterone which is neccessary for the implantation of the fertilized egg. Since my "cyst" did not go away on its own in a couple of weeks, my doctor put me on the pill, believe it or not! The cyst shrank down before my next period and I started my next cycle normally. The vaginal ultrasound was not a problem at all for me, I found it much less uncomfortable than a Gyn with a speculum for the annual Pap.
hi they do an ultra sound for me and im only 14 and ive got cyst on my ovaries i also had blood test, because they have to check for diabities hope that helps
and my ovaries are massive what does this mean for me what can i ave done ?
there is excellet info in the "health topics" tab in the in the upper right but in a nutshell ...
cysts under 4 cm i produced by women of childbearing years every month (usually one or even one on each ovary) .. those are called functional cysts ... they become problematic when they become "polycystic" (see PCOS) or greater than 5 cm ... over 5 cm they usually will not resolve on their own and removed ... the gynecologic surgeon may do laparoscopy to explore the pelvis, to remove the cyst, or may even remove the cyst along with its ovary and tube ... these things unfortuantely have to be visualized and sent to a pathoogist for correct diagnosis ... this is the least invasive procedure
secondly they can do a complete hysterectomy through the vagina ... they will probably take the ovaries and tubes at that time too
lastly they might do an abdominal incision to remove all reproductive organs if there is suspicion of malignancy (cancer)
u are all so wise to ask questions concerning ur reproductive health and i applaud all ur efforts .. i am almost 43 and i am four weeks out from having a massively invasive procedure (TAH BSO) to remove all my reproductive organs for a low grade slow spreading ovarian cancer ... make no mistake even tumors that grow slowly are killers if left untreated ... i am lucky and actually caught this early (stage 1C) ... i pray positive outcomes for all of ya'll and invite those interested to join the ovarian cyst forum ... theres people there with so much knowledge on this and other womenshealth subjects

RELAX!!! Cysts are very normal - you actually form them every month when you ovulate. Most of the times they go away but sometimes they don't. Who told you that you have cysts? Have you had or are you going to have an ultrasound? Cysts can affect you ability to get pregnant if you have them WHEN you are trying to conceive. Having them at 16 will not prevent you from conceiving in the future.
