early brown spotting, no actual period

I am 51 years old and no longer use birth control. I have had regular periods every month without fail but having read the information available felt bc unnecessary. Then....boom! The first month I get brown scant spotting for five days a full week before my period is due - but no period. I am now 3 days late for my expected period with negative pregnancy tests. What the heck is happening?

My mom had a similar experience when she started menopause. She continued to have sporadic periods for a few years, then it stopped entirely. She was one of the lucky few who had no other symptoms of menopause.

Because you've been managing your periods and your basically in charge of when you want a period by taking the pill , your body needs to regulate it's self now which is why your having spotting after a month or two you should be regular again and you may find your first period is really heavy .

Haha. Sometimes when you come of birth control, it also takes a little while for your body to adjust. It could just be that as well.

Yes I think that is the ironic situation! First month without birth control in my entire life and I begin menopause...unbelievable.
