external fungal infection; wondering about correctness of diagnosis

by d78tweety, Aug 20, 2006 12:00AM
I recently went to my obgyn for an annual exam and to have her address some external itching I have been having. I only seem to itch when I am at work, although it does happen every once in a while when I am not at work. She said she thinks I have an external fungal infection and that when I am working (I work in an environment where it can get pretty hot) it is exacerbated. She also said that normally when you have a fungal infection there are symptoms in the creases of you skin, which I did not have. She gave me a topical steroid/antifungal medication and said that if it did not help I should come back. It seems to have helped and some of the itching has gone away but it still itches once in a while. I have a limited income and I was wondering if someone might ne able to help me figure out if this is really a fungal infection or not. I was also wondering if this type of thing can be passed on to a partner. I have not been with anyone while this has been going on but if I choose to I want to make sure I am not putting anyone at risk.

How long have u been itching?  Do you shave down there?  I'm sure yeast has been ruled out.  Maybe you are allergic to a soap or shaving cream.

I went to a acute care center to get a second opinion and she said the same thing. I just wonder because i've been itching for about a month now. I didn't think shaving itch could last that long. But she said everything looked normal so hopefully it will stop soon
