external yeast infection

For the past 6 months i have been dealing with what i think is an external yeast infection. I am not sure. Almost every week i have this horrible itching around my anal area and perinial area. I have treated it with some hdrocortizone cream and have tried the external vaginal creams . they do help for a while but it comes back EVERY time!!! Sometimes it gets so bad that some of the skin will be so irritated (probably from scratching) that the skin will peel and scab up! Please help me! I am not sure what to do next.
