heavy bleeding

My mom is 53 years old and gets her period but it comes extremely heavy that she has to change her clothes often. She gets her period not every month but now and then ....im worried because she shouldnt be getting her period anymore what can be the cause of her heavy bleeding? ....her stomach also grows big and feels hard please help I dont know what to do for her anymore ...thank you

She might also have a fibroid.  They can have heavy bleeding or continuous bleeding as a symptom.  She should see her ob-gyn and see if an ultrasound will pick up anything unusual.  If not, she might request a uterine MRI.

Hi there and welcome to the forum.  Well, menopause can take several years dear and actually it is very very common in menopause to bleed heavily.  I'm approaching these years myself and my period is increasing tremendously.  Now, as it increases, this is something for her to be talking to her doctor about in her annual exam.  Her doctor should moniter that.  But this is not uncommon in the years that she is in.  good luck
