Is it normal to have heavy periods and blood clots.

How old are you? I would get a uterine ultrasound done to rule out cysts or fibroids.

Within reason, it's normal.  If you're feeling a tampon or a heavy pad in 2 hours or fewer, then it's not quite normal.  If you're filling one in more than that, then it's within a relatively normal range.

I had periods that were heavy with clots for 7 days straight (probably an overnight pad every 3-4 hours), and it was debilitating to the point I was having nausea and severe cramps and lower back pain.  I decided to go on the birth control pill to help regulate the severity (they were regular, just too heavy for me to function), and I now have 2-3 day long periods that are light to moderate in flow with only the occasional clot.  You might consider it if the reason you're asking is because it is impairing your life in some way even if it's just comfort.
