hysterectomy incision not healing

by tacp1965, Dec 27, 2006 12:00AM
Hi I had total abdominal hysterectomy on 1242006.  Had staples removed 1 week later.  Since i have in center of new incision a cross over my old verticle c-section scar a 2 inch diameter sore that is not healing. I am going to wound clinic but nothing.  It has puss and hurts.  It has aweful odor too.  Smells up clothes and room when husband changes bandage.  Should my doctor be doing more?  They are putting something called silver on it and a bandage every 4-5 days and that is it.  I am scared, the test came back it is not staph or the new metricl something infection.  Thank you for your time. Sincerely Scared.

Sounds like a major infection.  I would think that you should be on some type of antibiotics.  I think it may be time for you to get a second opinion--switch doctors and see if they will do anything else for you.

Sounds like an infection, i am dealing with a wound not healing, and recieving silver nitrate too, they told me it sometimes takes 2 treatments..well i am going in for number 5 today.I have alot of drainage, BUT i dont have a foul odor, so they dont think it's infected, thay say it's just granulation tissue(i am getting really tired of it).. Yes, i believe they need to be doing something else for you, the odor should have been their first clue.

Call them and tell them you want to atleast try an antibiotic. and also tell them, (they should know) that if it IS infected, useing the silver nitrate is only going to make it worse.

Get rid of the bozo doctor who is ignoring a foul odor.  Second opinion time!!!!!

When you are using the silver soultion, you want to leave it uncovered-and clean it regulary. The smell is a VERY bad sig
hn.I would suggest finding a female doc-the men really don't ge it and don't truly care. Amidwife would actually be your best bet- they are more prone to be secretly trained in the old ways
