ok so i wrote this darn post and it didnt work!! i dont remember it all except i quit!! cold turkey and i hate it hate it hate it!!! sigh everyone that has ever smoked and quit or tried it is hard!! but, i can do it. i just need to keep very busy. that means no cocktails, cause you cant drink and not smoke!! so no snacking or gaining weight!!! oh my!!! anyone else quit recently or want to?? i just keep telling myself "oh your skin will look so nice, you will smellSmell - impaired Stools - foul smelling so good, and my son will be sooooooo happy!" oh and the healthy thing too lol. alrighty then!! ill keep you all updated on my horrible addictionDrug abuse and dependence and how i am doing. it really is very very hard. ok off i go to keep myself moving, it helps to do SOMETHING rather than sit!! im getting my hair done in a bit and i have no idea what to do!! ok im off like a prom dress!!
Way to go!! I don't smoke but my hubby does - I've been trying to get him to quit forever! I know it's hard to do. Stick with it - you'll be so glad you did - and you will feel so much better. Again... way to go!!!

My mom was just diagnosed with lung cancer (smoked 40 years). Makes all those wonderful "after meals", "socializing", "I am bored" "I am lonely" etc etc cigarettes quite a bit less appealing. I quit a few years back when I realized I was just smokingQuitting smoking Smoking - tips on how to quit Smoking and copd (chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder) Smoking and smokeless tobacco Smoking hazards because I was feeling bad about myself and didn't really CARE enough about myself. Copped a new attitude and quit. It wasn't really THAT hard when I look back. You just need to occupy yourself with other things. Drink lots of water and chew lots of gum. My skin definitely improved, I didn't stink and I had more money!
Best of luck!
Hey girl! Way to go! As a fellow smoker who has tried, I know how hard it is. Proud of you!!!
Don't know about the gum though. You know me, TMJ Syndrome and all...gum is a big no-no. Try peppermints or butterscotch. DH's grandfather swore that's how he quit smoking MANY years ago. And much easier on the jaw joint!LOL
I gave up four months ago when i found out i was pregnant. It really is the best thing ive ever done, my clothes dont stink, my house doesnt stink, i can breathe properly. I even found that after a few weeks instead of smelling cigarette smoke and thinking, i really want one, i hated the smell, it smells different now, my husband gave up at the same time and he agrees that it smells different too.
I do find it hard sometimes, especially after i eat thats the worse time for me. It does get easier after a while you've just got to crack the first few weeks.
http://info.cancerresearchuk.org/healthyliving/smokeispoison/poisonoussmoke/?a=5441 This site reminded me why i was giving up in the first place. I wish you the best of luck
thank you everyone!! well its only been 24 hours now, but that is 24 hours!! i just ate dinner and i crave crave crave, but i remember all the positives and am trying to focus. im grouchy with the hubby though, poor motha!! ive done it before, the hard part is my sis smokes and my best friend does. we would sit in her garage and drink coffee and smoke! talk about a big stinkhole. i just wonder if i will ever be able to have a drink again. that is going to be the hardest. that is how i started again after i had my son. he was at his grandmas for the night and went out with the girls. next thing after having so many drinks, i was smoking again. i got a sexy new do today so maybe ill just start the year out right! hmmm now if i could just lose my extra pounds!! im trying not to put food in my mouth, i dont dare gain more!!
go perty!!!! eventually you will feel so much better. my father-in-law quit smoking years ago cold turkey and was able to keep with it. he still has days when he sees ciggies in the gutter and it's all he can to keep from picking it up and lighting it, but he's still resisting - and so can you!!
do you do anything like knit so that you can keep your hands busy? oh wait, you have the computer for that :)
i know you want to stay healthy for that son of yours!
Good luck with this, Perty. I quit eight years ago. Just stopped one day. I was more of a sneaky smoker and never in front of my child, but I really enjoyed smoking! Still cannot believe how easy it ended up...okay, not "easy" but not as difficult as I'd thought it would be.
To Anotherkatie,
I am so sorry to hear about the diagnosis on your Mom. This must be a difficult time for you.
I'm so proud of ya!!! I need to quite, but I'm a chicken. My friend thinks I'm gonna stop with her on 1-1-07. Yeah right! I don't think I can. I;m a weenie!! I love my smokes! I with they'd come out with some that don't hurt ya. i know I need to , I know all the bad things it does, I know i smell, I know i'm killin myself............... and it makes me smoke more when people feel the need to tell me things I know already. I guess it's the rebel in me. I hate always living my life around getting a pack of smokes though. Well, now that you quite - I might do it. I dunno. If I do - ya'll be ready to have a crazy woman cussin everyone out. I'll be the medhelp witch. Ya'll will hate me
Once again - I am proud of you for being so strong. Try sunflower seeds and gum. seeds will make ya swell, but it will help the cravings.
i know what you mean about the rebel in you...perhaps if my dh didn't feel the need to fuss about my smoking so much i might try to quit myself. that's exactly what i told a friend of mine the other day when i had one of my coughing fits in front of her. i know my cigs make my bronchitus (bronchitis) that much worse, but i can't stand to have somebody ride my butt!
unfortunatly i LOVE to smoke. how sad is that??? im going to be a biotch for several days i know this, its already happening. i can be strong i can be strong!! lucy you cant quit unless YOU want to. so if you are doing it for your friend, then maybe its not time yet for you!. i know that sounds sad to say keep smokin, but you have to have that strength from inside, not saying "stupid biotch made me quit, ill show her!!" lol that is what id say.
Wow, nice...even cheatin' isn't bad. Give yourself the time you need, and if you have to 'wean', then by God, do it...it is better than not quitting at all...
Don't you love that advice, as I'm sitting here *puff, puff*...sorry, but have to have it with the morning coffee...
Anyway, I quit in August when I found out I was pregnant. Only miscarried in Sept, and so I gave the 'no smoking' the finger, and started up again. It is so easy to quit when you feel sick!
So, do you have New Year's plans that don't involve drinking? Not me! I will drink heavily on New Years, kids will be at Mimi's and Pa Pa's house alllll night...I promise that we will take a cab home!
congrats & keep up the good work...
You must smell great!!! (I can't sit next to a smoker without sneezing)
Have a wonderful holiday.
Best of luck!
