icky brown discharge

Me & my boyfriend had sex a few days ago and i had bled some so i thought i was starting my period. turns out that i wasnt starting my period & i started having this brown discharge.(i also had sharp pains like i was crampin just like when u start ur period) well it is time for my period but instead i have been having this brown discharge. it dont come out in my underwear but i only see it on the toilet paper after i have used the restroom. theres usually quite a bit on the toilet paper. i had a baby 6 months ago & i have been takin birth control ever since. is it somethin to be worried about, should i get it checked out, or is it nothin?
