infections

A couple days ago, I was just relaxing and I had a tampon in, and I thought to myself that I should change it soon, but I didn’t get up then.  I ended up falling asleep, and in the morning it was not there. I am not sure if I subconsciously took it out.  As disgusting as this is, I tried to get it or see if it was there. I was pretty sure that it wasn’t and that I probably took it out.  I had a weird kind of blood after that.  I wasn’t worried about it until I decided to look up stuff about it.  Now I am worried about it. Even though I’m pretty sure its not there, I’m still questioning what to do.  What do you think I should do? (If its there it has been there for about 2 and a half days.)

From a squatting position you should be able to feel if it is there. If it is remove it immediately. I would use a pad until next cycle to let any remaining discharge flow out. If any sign of fever, redness, rash or dizziness see dr and explain.

you should just go to the e.r. A friend of mine had something similar happen. She went to sleep with her tampon on over night and when she woke up the next day it was gone. She went to the e.r. and they dialated her cervix and took it out. They told her that your vagina acts like a vaccum at night and your muscles contract, causing anything inside of it to get "sucked up". Thats how the tampons dissapear. The e.r. nurse told her it's really common and she sees a lot of women comming into the e.r. for that reason. Just make sure you go to the hospital just in case. The nurse also told my friend that another woman did the same thing and forgot she went to sleep with the tampon inside of her. The next morning it was gone and she was having sex with her boyfriend like 3 days later when she felt unbearable pain. By the time she got to the hospital and they discovered that she had a tampon inside of her, they had to remove her uterus because it was so badly infected. Don't want to scare you but it's better to be safe than sorry.

P.S.
If the tampon has been "sucked up" inside of you, my friend said that you wouldn't see the string, or be able to pull it out. That's why you have to go to the hospital, they have to take it out for you. Please keep us posted.

Looks like all that worrying for nothing, thankfully.  I went to the doctors and it was not there so I guess that I subconsciously took it out.  Thanks for answering though =)
