injection

Hi. How safe is the injection as a contraceptive and is there side effects.  Thanks

Hi.  A lot of women use it and have 'some' side effects similar to those of ANY oral contraceptive.  The issue with the injectable is that if you have a side effect ---  it will last until the shot wears off rather than if you take the pill---  and it is gone as the pill washes out of your system, so much faster.  Literature does not show infertility following injected contraceptives but it does take a couple of months for your period to become regular again, which helps with conceiving.  

However, there are benefits as well.  Many women LIKE not having a period.  And you don't have to remember to take a pill every day. And it's pretty reliable birth control in terms of preventing pregnancy!

It has lots of side effects i was on it for 3 years. Most women stop having periods, it can cause weight gain, delay future pregnancy if you ever decide to have children, brittle bones etc.
