It depends on how much blood and how bad the cramping is...It could be nothing if the blood is brown and the cramps are normal, but if it's a lot of red blood and bad cramping it could be serious. Has she called the dr and they will see her in 5 days? Or is that an appt she already had? She should be seen right away if there is a lot of blood and the cramping is bad. Good Luck to you and your DIL! I hope it's nothing.

Also I had a friend who had a m/c and got pg again. She was about 6 weeks along and she started bleeding, they took her to the ER but everything was fine, she's now 18 weeks.

I would still go to the hospital, just to be on the safe side.

Unfortunatly going to the hospital will only let you MAYBE know if she is m/c they will not be able to do anything for her, but do make sure the apt. in 5 days is not one that she has had previously shceduled. I did have that sort of experience in my last pregnancy and was told that I had a hematoma on my cervix. They were actually able to see it on the u/s and the doc told me that sense they seen it would not affect the baby because hematomas would cause a early m/c that was at 6 weeks. I actually had huge clots and cramping from it, was at the docs very frequently because it was scary. By 9 weeks or so it all stopped and a u/s showed that it was gone. My baby did die in utero at 18.4 weeks (I didn't find out until 21 weeks) but it had nothing to do with the original hematoma.

Your DIL my have one of these or possably the other thing.....good luck and try to keep your spirits up and let her know that we are here if she needs us. God bless you and your family.
