I found that I got that as an early symptom of thrush although most cases of thrush should not have an odd odor. It felt like I had a cut though in fact it was just an intense rash.
Use some Canesten on the area. It will usually soothe it quite well even if it isn't thrush and if the symptoms don't relieve themselves with in 3-4 days see a GP fairly soon.
