itchy bumps

i have some itchy small bumps that appear every couple months on the outer part of the labia. i have been tested 2 times for herpes (specifically) and other stds and have been negative. my gyn even swabbed the sore for the herpes test and it was negative. anyone ever had a problem like this? the area around it seems to feel tender also. i tend to rule out ingrown hairs as they appear too often it would seem. my doctor tells me not to worry, but doesn't really have an answer as to what they are....scary! they are similar to pimples that seem to ooze a little bit of clear fluid if scratched. then they go away completely only to come back in a couple months. help!

I have read a lot about folliculitis and it's sounding very much like that. I have small purple scars where the bumps were and all the pics I have seen of folliculitis seem to be similar.

I have the same problem.  I have been searching the web for some answers but everything talks about herpes.  I do not think that is what it is.  My husband is the only person I have been with and he does not have it.
I have had this for as long as I can remember.  I have noticed that I not only get the bumps on my pubic area but also in my hair on my head.  I think it must be hormonal because I get them more at certain times of the month.

I also tend to believe it's not herpes because they have appeared here and there for several years, and because for the last 2 yrs my ex had been having swollen lymph nodes on one side of his body and they never found out what caused it. He had many blood tests to check for herpes, hiv and everything under the sun, and always tested negative. I'm just wondering if anyone has any idea of any other problems that could cause this to happen. They are on the outside area and are hard to really see what they look like because they are within the hairs. They almost always appear in the same spot.

maybe ask for the herpselect blood test? I heard that it is pretty accurate... more so than the swabs

and maybe try just using water to clean down there and double rinsing all your undergarments in teh washer

I use hypoalergenic feminine wash to shower, it's just strange that it recurs the way it does. also the different comments people leave about herpes testing not accurate scares me. but when i was tested the 2nd time in 6 months it was because my b/f (with whom i was ending a 3 yr relationship) told me he tested positive for herpes, so she was specifically looking for that in the test (she cultured my cervix and my sore) and said if if was negative i didn't need to worry. i did not have a blood test, but she assured me the culture was very accurate. turned out that as the b/f was concerned he said that just to make me think if i had a disease no one else would want me (nice, huh). that's why i'm baffled.

Have you considered allergies to soap or detergent? Try using a non-scented soap and detergent and see if that changes. There are a whole variety of "outbreak" type rashes that can happen as a result of contact dermatitis or the like.. this is an easy way to see if you can resolve the problem if you doctor is stumped.
