just looking for advice

I didn't know where to post this as no one ever answers the type 2 diabetic forum.  So here it goes.

I have been a type 2 diabetic for 8 years. For the last year I have been on metmorfin 1000 mg a day. increasing everyday I have severe painful bowel movements. So bad that I have to curl up into a fetal position to get releif.

I saw my dr on apr 30th and he took me off the metmorfin and put me on Actos 30mg. Been on if for a week now. My painful bowel problem went away and I finally ventured out of the house and did a days full of activity without have to keep running to the bathroom every 5 minutes.

My blood sugars during this week have shot up above 300 and stay'd there. So yesterday I called my dr and he told me to go back on metmorfin plus the actos. He wants to start me on an injectible med but I am going out of town next week so he won't start it, that is why he told me to go back on metmorfin. I just started to cried because I was just starting to feel better and now after being back on the metmorfin for 24 hours I have having my issues again. Not to mention I am going on a cruise next weekend and I don't want to have this problem.

I don't know what to do,,, my dr. told me to just suck it up for a few more weeks and we will get off the metmorfin in June and go on the injectible med.

I guess I will just have to take along a dozen boxes of immodium with me on the trip.

Hi there, I'm sorry for all of your troubles. That must be terrible. I really don't have any answers for you, but just wondering if you've had the bs above 300 verified by another form other than your testing (glucometer)? My grandmothers went off the charts and it turned out that the meter was broken. Also, check if it is an older unit that you have to put the code # in to see if it is the same. You have to change those with a new vial of test strips. Best wishes to you and I hope that you get things under control real soon!
