kinda dark brown pasty discharge 5 days before period

hi so i have had for the pas four days a pasty kinda dark brown discharge and im getting kinda worried....i have had it before but only a few days after my period..but i have never had it this far before my period....i wanted to know if it has something to do with my birth control i have been taking ortho tri cyclen for about 2 and a half years now.... should i be worried? is it a warning sighn? pleas help!!!???
