long period

My 18 year old daughter has been having a heavy period for over 3 weeks now. It's not unusual for her to have 2 week periods and miss some months.  But this is the longest yet.  Could it just be part of her irregularity or some other problem?

When I was 13 (I am 37 now) my mom took me to 3 different doctors to see what was causing my 6 month long period. It was very painful, I had large clots, and heavy. The first two treated me like a child who just wasn't adjusting the "facts of life" and I felt like they were giggling on the inside. The 3rd GYN did ultrasound and found a cyst. He put me on birth control and it cleared right up. I never had problems again until now after 2 children. I hope this helps you, don't let them tell you nothing is wrong. It's probably nothing serious, but they aren't the ones with cramps, bloating, dirty sheets and embarrassing moments in public.

let me correct myself here's what i meant to say. I had my period for 5 weeks before and then went to the doctor with my mom and got some meds they worked for a little while. Then my period went off for a week then it came back on again and i was at camp and could not go swimming with my friends or my sisters which made me really sad. But now my period is heavy and the meds seem to not be working anymore i went back to the doctor to get my boosta shot and all a sudden we started talking about my period and she said the meds might kick in in 3 months which still isn't good enough. Now my periods heavy and it sorta goes through and i have to keep washin my underwear or pants. I'm only 13 and had my period for a year is this possible?

I used to have that problem and it was just my irregularity. I did have some tests done to make sure it was not caused by some other problem. I know Fibroids and cysts can cause those symtoms as well. I would say if it goes on much longer she should check with her doctor.  The bleeding could make her iron level to low and she might need treated for that as well.  I hope she gets it figured out, its no fun thats for sure.
Hugs,
Alisa
