menstral cycle pain

For the last three years I have extreme pain on my left side during ovulation.  My OBGYN says it is from the egg being released at time of ovulation 10-14 days into my menstral cycle.
I thought I heard a name for this, middle schmertz(? Does this sound normal?  Does anyone have any more information on this?? Thanks,

Ovulation happens every month on alternating ovaries.  If you are having pain during this time you may have a cyst on one of your ovaries.   These cysts form every time you ovulate.  Most of the time the cyst goes away on it's own after the egg is released, but sometimes it stays.  This causes pressure on the ovaries and other organs and therefore causes pain.  This also makes your ovaries very sensative.  If you are in pain, ask your gyno to have an ultrasound to check for problems.  Good luck!

Ive heard of a possibility of getting a cyst instead of releasing an egg that can cause the pain.  I get pain during ovulation but nothing too intense.  If it really bothers you I def have it looked at again.
