mixed pregnancy test results. Preg or not??

by stonehouse5, Jul 30, 2008 04:00PM
I was on birth control for three years and came off it about three months ago to try to get pregnant.
My period is irregular when off the pill, from a couple to many days late and this month is no different as I am ten days late.. I know it's kind of soon off the pill and my body is still getting regulated..
I took a pregnancy test at five days late and both were the +- kind and both came out negative -.
Yesterday I took a digital and the word "pregnant" popped up-- I couldn't believe it. My husband and I became prematurely excited.. I took another digital an hour later and it said "not pregnant." Once again, I ran out for more tests instead of waiting til the Am.. Hours later last night, I took another digital which said "pregnant" followed by two  two more +- which both said negative-.   This AM I took yet another +- and it came out negative again!
Long story short, I had two positives and several negatives.
I still don't have my period at ten days late, but I do feel a little crampy and bloated like I do before it comes.. no breast tenderness or nausea to indicate early pregnancy, but I've had insomnia, very frequent urination at night and of course the late period, but again, that's not unusual.
My question is what are the chances I am in fact pregnant at ten days late even though I've had more negative tests than positive?
I will make a doc apt ASAP, but I'm feeling impatient and confused and would love any input, advice or experiences you're willing to share. Thanks so much!

I can only relate from experience. After trying for a child for many years, we were delighted by the first preg. test results that had, although a faint +, a + none the less. Later I took the 2nd test and it was negative. I bought the digital tests as well. They read not pregnant. I got a different brand and one read positive and the 2nd negative. My cycle did come, although late and it was more severe. I saw an ob-gyn and had a blood test. The blood test was negative. I believe it was a miscarriage and that if I had waited longer to test, I would have just believed I had a heavier period. My sister-in-law said when she had an early miscarriage, her pregnancy test, although positive, was a very faint line, not like with her other pregnancies. Either way, I wish you well. An ob appt. could clear up your doubts rather quickly.

its not very common to get false positives so i would say it sounds like your pregnant.

however i heard some cysts can give false positives

Thanks so much for your input. I'll make a doc appointment tomorrow and hopefully that will clear things up right away.
