more cold sore confusion

by justlittleolme, Sep 15, 2006 12:00AM
if you havent been keeping up with my woes.. 15-16 days ago the process of an evil cold sore outbreak started (LOL). I got a HUGE swollen lip and a massive sore. On day 5 I went in and they gave me acyclovir oral 800mgs 5 times a day.

By day 9 or so the sores were looking decent... by day 12 the only thing you could see was two slight marks on my lip.. no open sores and sores on the inside of my lip were completely gone. The only pain was from a canker sore I developed on the tip of my tounge in the mean time that has hurt like heck!

so yesterday my lip hurt in the are were there were still marks on my lip. I resumed the acyclovir and abreva. This morning when I woke up it is hurting like there is a huge blister there but the lip looks the same as did two days ago.... and the corner of my mouth feels wierd... not sure how to decribe it.

Is this wierd to anyone else? It seems like the 99% better outbreak is about to go backwards suddenly... is this possible??????????

I feel ill about it. My mouth has hurt for over 2 weeks between the cold sores and the tip of my toung canker sore not to mention  I have isolated myself because I am self concious (I know, its stupid)

I have the exact same problem, only mine lip will crack and blled and I get the sores on my tounge, gums and throat. I took all kinds of antibiotics and gargled with viscus lidocane but to no avail. Finally, I went to a specialist only to fund out that they are ulcers that pop up in and around your mouth. Do you have stomach ulcers? Have you been under any stress lately?

A prescription for Valtrex almost always stops my cold sores right away. I also use an Aclovier (sp?) topical creme (also prescription), and often dab directly on and around cold sore with a cotton ball with witch hazel, (Don't rub, dab!) It doesn't sting like you think it might, and helps tremendously with the swelling. I hide out too when I start getting them, its not stupid, its normal. :)

well it hasnt gotton *worse* so I am feeling good about that. It does still hurt though/. Guess I'll give it another few days then call on it if there is no improvmement

In the meantime that canker sore healed... I can eat again!! LOL!!

I ve had coldsores since i was 5yrs old the best way to beat is catch them before they start if you feel that itchy spot coming on slap alot of carmex on it! I f i dont catch it at the itchy stage and it breaks through i slap alot and i mean Alot of carmex on it for about two days then i only put carmex on when it gets really itchy! The only way to bet it is catch it at the itchy stage(my body is trained to wake up in the middle of the night if i feel one coming lol) or the other is to dry it out and fast!!! I feel your pain and i totallyunderstand the not wanting to go out in public ive gotten elot of looks over the years that well were not nice but if you catch at the itchy lip stage you can usually beat it that time anway. P.S. be warned cold sores are persistent lil buggers lol if you catch at the ittchy stage they will try again about 2-5 days after so be om the lookout for that itchy feeling! Good Luck to you!!!!!!!:)

About 5 days ago my top lip swelled up.  I assumed that it was an allergic reaction to something and went to the doctor.  She gave me some antihistamines which resolved the swelling.  The next day, my tongue got very sore and developed a white coating, plus there were some white marks inside my cheeks, and a big white round ulceration inside my upper lip (where the swelling was).  The day after that a large blood blister developed on my tongue instantaneously and popped when I ate some food.  I now have large, whitish ulcerated lesions throughout my mouth, at the back of my throat, on my cheeks and under my tongue (and ontop where the blister was).  I am worried that this is a primary oral herpes eruption.  I have never had herpes in my life before, but I don't know where I could have picked it up from either.  No one in my family has it and my partner doesn't have it either.  Has anyone had something similar or know if this is herpes?
