I had a myomectomy done in Nov 06 to remove an 11 cm fibroidFibroid tumors Uterine fibroids (and two smaller ones). They had to remove because it was distorting the uterus, causing SEVERE bleeding (causing severe anemia), abdominal pain, and pressurePressure ulcer on the bladder. I am trying to get pregnant, but at the time, I told my gyn that she could go ahead and rip the entire uterus out because I was in so much pain. So many things I read said a hysterectomy was the ONLY option. But my fabulous gyn said she could do a myomectomy and preserve my fertility, so we opted for it.
Now, if fibroids are small, not causing problems (such as bleeding and pain), and do not distort the uterus, then I've been told they don't have to be removed. It's been 7 months and I have two more fibroids growing (like you one is 2 cm and the other is slightly smaller). I've been told we don't have to do anything but watch them, but I'm not too happy about that diagnosis. Especially since I am trying to get pregnant again. But, I trust my doctor and just have to give ttc more time (we've only tried two cycles so far).
They will want to watch your fibroids, and if they grow bigger or cause problems, they may revisist the myomectomy option (DO NOT let your doc say that the only option is hysterectomy....that is FALSE...well, in most cases anyway, I don't know your particular case of course). If they grow bigger and they still won't do anything, I would get a second opinion. Also, if you think they aren't doing enough, just lie and say they are causing symptoms and then they will look into it further. Fibroids of any size can cause pain, bleeding, bladder pressure.
If you do in fact have these symptoms already, I would also seek a 2nd opinion.....don't let it get as bad as mine got....it wasn't fun.
Hope that helps. Let me know if you have other questions.....I'm not an expert, but have certainly learned more than I ever wanted to know about these little buggers.
