nipple sensitivity after having Shingles

by 1dgtrainer, Jun 20, 2007 12:00AM
I am a 53 yr old female, post menopausal and don't take estrogen. I recently had a four week 'bout' of Shingles that effected my left side. The lesions started from the middle of my chest, under my left breast around to the middle of my back. I have recovered but now my left nipple is extremely sensitive and feels like it starts from the inside outward. I feel this sensation 24/7 and can hardly stand anything to touch that area. I fear that this isn't going to go away and I don't think I can stand it much longer.
I'm guessing this sensation is from the Shingles and although the lesions were on my breast as well as under, none were on the nipple. What's worse is that this same sensation seems to travel downward to my pubic area, down my leg and into my foot! I know that sounds absurd but it's true and very distressing.
Has anyone else heard of this or experienced this? I think I need to see a Neurologist.

It is most likely from the shingles. Shingles attach to the nerves. What you are feeling sounds like it is symptoms of something with the nerves. Call your doctor and see what they can do to make you comfortable. Shingles can take a while to completely go away.

I believe you are most likely correct about this because I didn't have the sensitivity prior to the Shingles.
I really am hoping this goes away soon because it is so irritating.
My doctor told me that a person gets Shingles only once in their lifetime but several people have told me they know others who has had this problem several times. I can't imagine getting this again!!!!!!!!!

I know some one who has had it at least 3 times. So yes you can get it more than once, but not always. I hope you feel better soon.
