nipple sensitivity

i am 54 y.o.; 2 years ago, i stopped menstruating for 10 months, only to resume with a vengance (heavy flow, terrible cramps, irritability). 5 months ago, i stopped bleeding again. for the past week my breast nipples are extremely sensitive and sore to the touch. i had my last gyn exam, breast exam, mamogram (mammogram) and pap smear 10/06; all normal results. the tender, sore nipples is something i've never experienced before, but am concerned about. there is no cracking of nor discharge from the nipples. what might this be symptomatic of?

Hormone changes comes to mind. I'd check in with the gyno and tell what has changed lately and see what she says.
