odor (not fishy)

by bessb, Dec 17, 2005 12:00AM
I have had what I thought was a recurring yeast infection, but I saw the Dr and he said no yeast, no trich, not much bacteria (he said there are levels of bacteria, and mine is not elevated.)

My problem is as I saw posted here in the archives (but sadly no solution) - after sitting, when I get up I have a strong smell of something - I think it smells kind of sweet. I have no clue if other people can smell it - I sure hope not - I try just to keep my distance and/or my legs clamped shut!

The smell seems to faintly linger in my underwear and pants even after I wash them, which is why I thought maybe it is yeast and I am keeping the cycle going...  I thought maybe it was the polyester - in checking my pants they all have polyester in them or are all polyester. I never wear pantyhose, and my pants are generally loose fitting. I'm not sure that dress pants that are not at least part polyester exist. I tried going pantiless and that made things worse.

He gave me a prescription for Flagyl and said that should knock whatever it is out, but I am very scared to tke the flagyl, since when I took it before it seemed to set off a whole lot of other health problems.

I would really appreciate any insight.

Thanks - it is just that I do not want to put my body through the Flagyl thing if there is a chance it may be something else, and that is what I am trying to figure out.  I have been eating a lot of fast food and drinking diet sodas, not the best diet.  Since the Dr did not say that I DO have an infection, I will continue to hold off on the Flagyl until I have tried some other things, including getting my diet sorted out.

If the doctor gave you a medicine to take...I would follow the doctor's advice!!!!
Flagyl does cause stomach upset with me , give me headaches and cause an odd taste in my mouth(while on it)....But it does get rid of the infection. So I guess you have to ask yourself if the side effects or the odor is more disheartening to you.
Plus if you don't take your antibiotics and you do have an infection..from my understanding..the infection can spread through out your reproductive system. If the doctor prescribed you medicine...I would take it.( Just my opinon).

do you have any other symptoms besides the odor? unfortunatly, that may just be "your smell" we all have some type of odor down there and some womans scent is stronger than others. i would think that things you eat would have an impact on how we smell  and if you "sweat" down there at any time, that mixes in and can create a whole new scent. is your period coming? sometimes hormone changes can cause different smells. that happens to me.

I'm a little curious why your doctor prescribed flagyl. Flagyl is a medication to eliminate gas, and or diarhea (diarrhea)/bathroom problems. You might want to figure that out!

Flagyl or (Metrondazole ) is al so used to treat Trich and BV.

if it is odor with discharge then i would deffinately say it is just "your smell" your Bglands could be all hyped up about something, fairmones or something like that. if its not accompanied by discharge then i would say that you should try using those new feminine cleansing whipes whenever you go to the bathroom. it will at least help with the scent. and by all means baby girl, take that medicine. Unless of course, you can prove that you are allergic to it.

I know this may sound odd to some, but what you eat really has an effect on your body.  If it is possible for your breath to smell like garlic, for urine to smell weird after eating asparagus, and for you to sweat out alcohol (to the point of being able to smell it), then why wouldn't the same be true for other secretions? I bet it has something to do with your diet.  Maybe you started taking vitamins? Or eating sugary foods?  I know I actually have a lot of naturally occurring yeast in my body (and vagina) overall, but its not a yeast infection.  I absolutely notice a difference when my diet changes.  When I eat a lot of white flour, sugar, and cheese, it obviously gets worse.  Try changing your diet to include less of those foods and see if it helps.  Or try a probiotic, which I love btw. They seem to keep things in check.
