on depo for 1year and half. can i get pregnant

Hi. I have been on the depo shot for the last year and a half. I have not missed or have been last for my shots either. Since I have been on the shot once a month for 5 days I get period like syptoms (symptoms) you know crapping, bloating but never actually bleed or any spotting. Suddenly I feel extremely weird (pregnancy weird). I have a child already and was not planning on having another for 4 years and have in the past descussed this with my OBGYN and he told me there was no way possible of getting pregnant on the depo shot. Does anyone know something that maybe my doctor and I don't about getting pregnant while on depo?

It has happened, rarely women can get pg while on depo. The few cases I have ever heard of they were late for their shots, but others have claimed to have been on time and gotten pregnant. I was on it for 3.5 years the first time and 6 months the second and it took my 12 months to get pg each time.

The only way to know if you are pg it to take a test.

I got pregnant while on the depo shot, it can happen. I was two months into the shot...and it was the first time I took. So it is possible.

hi! it is very rare that you can get p on the depo. the rare chance of it happening is when you first got on it. i took the depo for 4 1/2 years and never got p. me and my dh never used protection. if you are on it for a period of time it can   take  around a year or more to get p.i got off of it after the 4 1/2 years b/c my dr did not tell me that it can take along time to get p if you have been on it for a long time and it can even in some cases make you sterile(sorry for the spelling). one of my friends told me and when i went to get my shot the next time and she did confirm that both of those things were true. so i got off and went to a high level bc pills with lots of estrogen and was on it for 2 years and when i got off i got p the first month.   if you think you are i would go to your ob to make sure and diffenetly not get the shot again. i wish you the best of luck.

I am in the exact position as Aninna.  I got the depo shot for the first time and my hubby and I even waited a few weeks for it to "take effect" before we began having unprotected sex.

I got the shot on Nov. 15 and discovered I had conceived my now 6 month in utero son in early January.

My depo shot should have been good for 3 months, meaning it should have lasted to mid February, but apparently it didn't.

We are now expecting a baby boy in September.

So, YES, you can get pregnant on the Depo shot. Even my doctors couldn't believe it, but that goes to show that NO birth control is 100%.  I guess I fell in the 1 percentile. :)

I hope this helped.
