pain after inguinal hernia repair

i am a 41 yr old female i had left side inguinal hernia repair 3 weeks ago. Below the incision the area is totally numb and behind the scar is a hard lump, when i walk the area around the scar is very painful and inflames is this normal and will eventually heal or should i go back to gp
