I was diagnosed when I was 15. They originally put me on metformin to help with my insulin levels. I had horrible side effects and didn't find it necessary at such a young age to stay on it. I have not been on the meds since. I have complications every once in a while, but I make it through alright in my everyday life. It really affects me in terms of my fertility and currently trying to get pregnant. They might put me back on metformin in combo with clomid if clomid alone doesn't work.

I have PCOS and I also take Metformin. I have a cycle but its all out of wack... the Metformin has not helped regulate me at all. I have had two beautiful babies even with PCOS. I am a boarder line diabetic caused from it. I still suffer really really bad from my PCOS. I go back to the doctor this month so hopefully they can do something different for me. I wish all of you good luck and for those who wonder if you can still have children I am proof that you can.

Hi there! So I was diagnosed with PCOS 8 months ago... but just 2 weeks ago I started on metformin. I tried loosing weight with diet and exercise, with no luck. I figured, Its time to get some help, because I would love to have a baby in the near future. The first week on met I felt terrible. Heartburn, nausea, no appitite. I was tired, dizzy, and grouchy. Then, I started to feel a ton better! I have seriously stopped craving sugar and have kicked my bad soda habit. Im drinking diet soda now... but I will give that up too one day. I would just like to say DONT GIVE UP! We can all get over this stupid PCOS crap! It might not be 100% cureable, but it doesnt have to control our lives anymore. HAVE A GREAT DAY LADIES!

Hello.

Yes, I'm 18 and got diagnosed with PCOS a few days ago.  I started Metformin too..and the past 4 days have been pretty tiring. Makes me feel nauseated quite often..and yesterday I had to miss school because of it.

But I heard thats common when first starting out on it.  Today I feel perfectly normal- no nausea =).
Goodluck to you, and don't worry if it makes you feel kinda sick at first.

Pcos is very common, and usually metformin is the first prescribed thing for it, as usually with pcos, you get insulin resistancy, which contributes to infertility and weight problems. So metformin helps with the I.R. and thus hopefully restoring normal ovulation and alot of ladies i know have lost alot of excess weight while on it, It's also been shown to reduce the m/c rate abit if taken till at least 12 weeks.
