pelvic lumps

Every month during my menstrual I get a very painful lump about the size of a plum on the left side of my pelvic(bikini lining). Its very painful and its swolen around it down to the top of my vagina. At first the lump would only last during my cycle but now its there most of the time. I have pap smears and everything comes back normal. MY doctor prescribed me birth control pills to help regulate cycle but im still in pain. Also after sex the lump hurts even more. What could it possibly be. Im tired of being in pain

Thanks for your input, its greatly appreciated but I did actually see my ob/gyn. Thats who did blood work pap smears and prescribed me the birth control. Even though everything comes back normally I know something is wrong.

I would advise seeing an OB/GYN instead of a family doctor. Not to undermine the expertise of a family doctor but since it's a persisting issue that did not get resolved, the sooner you see a specialist, the better.
