period after partial hysterectomy

I am 32 years old and had a partial hysterectomy 6 1/2 weeks ago.  This was after having problems with my period over the years, being married for 11 years and deciding we didn't want any more children, and the number one issue...a growth on my ovary that continued growing over 3 months. After pain for 6 months off and on and a trip to the emergency room, with pain so severe it made me double over, it was found on a CAT scan that I had a good size cyst that they thought burst.  When I went to my OBGYN and had a vaginal sonogram they found not a cyst that had burst but one that doubled in size from the 2 weeks prior trip to the emergency room.  My doctors suggestion was a laproscoptic surgery to remove the cyst and I asked about a hysterectomy and he agreed to do as I wished.  I had my utereus removed along with the cystic ovary and the fallapian tube on that side.  Upon my wish the doctor left the other ovary and tube and cervix.  I was informed by him later that because the cyst ended up being an endometrioma caused by endometriosis starting that I might later have the same trouble on the other ovary.  When my surgery was done it was 2 weeks til my next period.  I bleed very little and had just a little bit of pain afterward.  However I did have somewhat of a period.  When I went back for my 4 wk checkup the doctor asked me a lot of questions, one was if I had a period and I told him yes.  He then informed me that some women do have periods after a hysterectomy.  AFTER HAVING A 2ND PERIOD SINCE SURGERY I AM WONDERING IF THIS IS NORMAL OR NOT?????  Everyone says it isn't.

Did your pain go away? I am 4 weeks post op, I also had the same surgery as you. I am 45, everything as been fine until last night. Not sure, if it's period like symptoms without the period? Pelvic pain along with back pain.

I had a hysterectomy 9 years ago and the after effects never end and, in fact, get progressively worse. Once they remove the uterus (regardless of the reason), the bladder and bowel descend in the pelvis which may lead to additional surgery (for prolapse) down the road. It can also cause bladder and bowel problems including incontinence.

It also changes the alignment of the spine, hips, and rib cage because the uterine ligaments are the support structures for the pelvis. Cutting those causes the spine to compress / collapse, the hips to widen and the rib cage to fall. This is why women who had hysterectomies have shortened midsections, protruding bellies with no waist, and no curve in the lower back.

The hormonal effects can be equally devastating. In a matter of months post-op, I aged at least 15 years (lost most of my hair and lots of skin collagen and subcutaneous fat as well as muscle mass). This can happen if the ovaries fail post-hysterectomy (happens about 40% of the time) or if the ovaries are removed. Intact women's ovaries produce hormones into their 80's for optimal health.

Have you tried a pessary to hold things up? There are various kinds and they have to be custom fitted but at least you would get to keep your uterus and its LIFE LONG functions. Also, many prolapse surgeries use mesh which has its own set of risks (infection and inability to remove all of the mesh causing permanent pain and problems).

Hello,
My story is similar to yours.  Large baby - major damage etc.  I had the repairs (sling/front wall & rear wall) done in April 2013.  The front started to fall again so it was re-repaired in May, 2014.  Now the cervix is falling again & feeling "that lovely balls between your legs" feeling again.  I'm not sure about having a partial hysterectomy ...how is sex? Did you gain weight? Is the cervix staying up & is that "balls in the way/hanging out feeling" over? I can't find much on hysterectomy for organ prolapse/vaginal damage like ours so I'm kind of at a loss for resources...any help would be appreciated

Any answers to this? Since you said "most of your cervix" was removed, the bleeding could be coming from the remaining part of your cervix. When the cervix or part of it is left, you can have spotting or mini-periods.
