periods lasting so long

Hello, I'm a 22 year old mother of a 3 year old and i've been bleeding for almost 3 weeks stright. Prior to me getting my period this month, i hadn't had one for 5 months. I just had to have cervical cancer cells removed on january 13. I should also mention that i haven't had sex since November 9, 2008. I'm confused about what it could be, and why it could be lasting this long. my normal period length is between 4-6 days. and i miss those short ones...LOL...if anyone could help me with figuring out what could be wrong with me, i would GREATLY appreciate it. Thanks in advance

I had a similar problem to you and first the Dr tried more estrogen and that didnt work and it turned out to be a Progesterone problem.

no, i'm not. the dr. said he wants to put me on b.c to see if that helps but we have to wait for all of these other tests to come back that he ran....such as diabetes and stuff

Thats actually incorrect. Having PCOS myself and from talking to other moms & women who have PCOS... your periods are heavy and long... not short and light.

It could also be an estrogen problem. Are you on birth control?

I have been to the doctor and had the ultrasounds done to look into the whole PCOS thing, but from my research, PCOS cause light periods when they do come. not the ones that last nearly 3 weeks and still going.

Could be a number of things to be quite honest. The first thing that pops in my head is either PCOS or a progesterone problem. Its a wise idea that you contact your Dr.
