pill to open cervix

My doctor gave me 4 pills to take for cervical stenosis tonite as I am having an endometrial biopsy tomorrow. What are the pills? She said they may cause cramping.

This discussion is related to what does a closed cervix mean?.

I'm guessing it's probably misoprostol. It's frequently prescribed for helping soften the cervix to assist with various procedures. I had to take it the night before getting my IUD. Yes it caused cramps and bleeding but I've had labor pain level cramps before so it wasn't a big deal for me. Other women who aren't as used to bad cramps might find it more painful. But it helps get the cervix ready to be opened easier.

No pharmacy bottle. 4 pills given to me in a small envelop at the office.

What does it say on the bottle? The pharmacy would have printed the name of the medication on the bottle.
