pinkish brown discharge and period

hi there, is there anyone out there to put my mind at rest ? im 42 yrs old and for the last year or so i have had dishcarge after my period lasting about 2 weeks, i always start my periods really heavy bright red bleeding and this goes after few days to lighter and then after about 5 days i then have like pinkish, brown discharge with straggly bits in it for about two weeks on and off...i have had smears which have come back normal and the last time the nurse went to do smear she noticed a polyp and said i needed to go to gynaecology about this, my doctor said not to worry as nothing serious. When i went to the hospital the doctor that examined me said everything looks fine but wants to do a Hysteroscopy to check inside, he didnt mention cancer at all, he said that it could be down to my lining being thicker n shedding later than normal or polyps inside which he can remove while doing the hysteroscopy.
But even though he didnt mention the 'C' word you obviously think the worst,so im wondering does anyone think that im being stupid and that of course i should not be worried the doc would of mentioned something if he was more concerned and since my appointment for my hysteroscopy isnt for another 4 weeks they are not exactly rushing me.

pleasde can someone put my mind at rest, i do suffer from nerves, if you didnt guess, and things like this play on my mind and make me feel ill..

thanks White Paws....

Don't have an answer, but you and philoalways are not the only ones.  I have an appt 3/10 for this same situation.  I'm not sure how long this has been going on for you, but I've been dealing with "ladies' issues" for about 18 mos now - and I'm getting flat out sick of it.  My periods have been all over the place - this month I am dealing with exactly the same situation as you are having.  I had my period on 1/17 and now have been spotting since it ended.  In December - no period.  Before that, periods ever 21-23 days with spotting in between - with the occasional "normal" cycle.  I am also 42.  I will post any results I find, provided I don't bleed to death before March 10th.  Or my head doesn't explode from the stress of worrying that I'm dying every minute of the day.

hi philo, i think its just the two of us.lol....im sure that we are both being very silly and just letting our imaginations run away with us....i am still worried about this, but like most people say, if the doc thought it were serious you would not be waiting 4 weeks for the hysteroscopy...it is that main concern to all us women, my mom had cervical cancer, and she also had the hysteroscpy but again like she said when she had her smear done, it was abnormal and they then did the further tests, mine was completely normal and is only due to discharge that i am having this done....

i will elt you know the outcome, have you got to go to the gyna also with the same sort of problems
