pre-op transsexual breast implants

Why do I need a psychologist's permission before I can obtain breast implants when a genetic woman can do whatever she please with her chest with no hassle and why couldn't you use fat from a liposuction for implants?

The only thing I can think of is that they are concerned that you will regret it after.  I don't know really.  My girlfriend had to go through a counseling session when she got hers to make sure it's what she really wanted.  It was with the physicians office though and not a psychologist.  Could it be your location?  I guess I'm stumped.  Could be that it's still kind of considered "taboo" in some places.

Good luck.

You can't use fat from liposuction because the fat would simply redistribute itself throughout your body, and wouldn't remain in the breast area.

When you are going through the stages of gender reasignment it is common to have a "shrink" evaluate your mental status.  They are not against you.  They will back you up.  Even when you go through the last and final stage.  Good luck I hope your transition goes smoothly. Always, Kristine

When I decided to get breast implants I had to go and talk with the doctor after reading some material and watching a video.  He just wanted to make sure that it was what I wanted and that I wasn't being pressured or just doing it because of some other reason.  But it was what I wanted and he supported my decision.  Everyone has to go through with that part. HTH.

I have a friend who is a transsexual and she is now done with all the operations.  She went through lots of counseling beforehand, just to be sure that is what she really wanted.  It probably has something to do with the doctor being sure you are mentally competent to consent and so that he or she will not be sued by you if you come to regret it later.  When a woman has plastic surgery she has to go through at least a preliminary counseling with the doctor to ensure she is consenting and really wants the operation.  I got breast implants 6 years ago, and super, super regret it!  I went from an almost-B cup to a D, and I think I look fat now even though I'm a thin person, feel embarrassed wearing clingy tops, hate men staring at my boobs when we talk, etc.  If it's so easy for women to regret it, docs probably believe it is more easy for a transsexual to come to regret it.  Good luck to you, and be sure the doctors are on your side, like an above poster said!

wanting to have breast implants is a risk factor for suicide, as people with breast implants commit suicide at something like twice the rate of the general population.  Women who ask for the implants don't need psychological approval, but perhaps that's a bad thing?  After all, a lot of mentally unstable or depressed people apparently ask for this procedure.
