question about menses

I have never been regular with my periods I can go 3 months without one and I never know when one is coming. About 3 weeks ago I thought I started my period because when I wiped there was red blood. the next day there was nothing but some light brown discharge ( like when you are beginning or ending your period) and then like 2 days later I bled long enough to have blood while wiping and after that there really hasn't been red blood but I have had that brown discharge for about 2.5 weeks. I am planning to make an appointment with a GYN I am just really busy. Has anyone else experienced this or something similar? I am just concerned because its been 3 week my mind always goes to the worst like endometrial cancer or something.. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Oh and I am not pregnant, I am married but very rarely have sex and if I do it's with a condom every time.

I do have ovarian cysts but not one ever told me how they could effect me. I am just freaked out from the length of time and how random the bleeding was. I bled some more today. my body has always been weird but this is unusual for me!

Some of the more common causes of irregular cycles are Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), thyroid disorders, pituitary disorders. Endometrial cancer is rare especially in a 20-something year old.
