questions M/C

I have a couple questions, hopefully someone could help me out. Last monday I miscarried, I was 17 weeks pregnant but when I got my sonogram that day after I noticed ALOT of bright red blood I went to the ER and the baby actually died at 9 weeks. I had no symptoms till last week... no pains, no blood till that day. I had a miscarriage back in 2003 then i gave birth to my son in 2004. Is it common to miscarry how I did? Before a birth and after? Also, I was wondering when is the soonest you can try to get pregnant again after a m/c? Should I buy a fertility monitor? If anyone who is reading this had a situation like me and wanted to become pregnant quickly how did you manage it? Will I be extra fertile bc of the m/c? I just want to go about getting pregnant the right way and for all to go well.. I really appreciate any help from anyone who will listen at this point. This has been so hard for me, i never expected it. Its so hard to understand why things like this happen but i know everything happens for a reason. If anyone can help me PLEASE do, thanks soooo much for listening!

I was also 17 wks pregnant when I m/c back on May 26.  They told
me the baby only measured about 14 wks.  I had the tissue
tested and it came back neg for any genetic abnormalities.
I did try to get preg right away but no luck...I'm hoping
maybe this month since it's been 4 months and my due date would then be exactly a year after I m/c.  I'm guessing my problem
has something to do being 38 yrs. old.  I realize problems
start and it seems to take longer to get preg.

I am so sorry that you have lost your baby! I had a miscarriage in Dec of 2000 and I thought I was 15 weeks but the baby had also died at around 8 or 9 weeks. I thought the hardest thing was that my body took so bloody long to recognise the baby had died before it began miscarrying. It seems so cruel to play that trick on us, but my mother told me that it's natures's way of holding on to life and waiting to make absolutely sure that the baby has died before it starts miscarrying. i thought it was a sweet thing to say as she made me feel not that my body had failed me but that it had tried to hold on to the possibility of life for as long as it could until it got all the messages that it wasn't working.

I desperately wanted to be pg again immediately following my d&c. I fell pregnant with my next one 3 months later and she was born in Dec of 2001. I have since gone on to have 2 more babies (boys) and am currently 11 weeks with my 4th and have not (touch wood) miscarried since. I believe that you should fall pregnant when you are ready emotionally. Your body will be fine if you have had at least one cycle. A strong feotus will live and thrive regardless of what you have recently been through. Have faith in your body again and if you have done it once before (with your son?) then you can do it again. Best of luck and prayers for your recovery!

I actually had a miscarriage as well, I was 12 weeks along and they told me the baby died at 10 weeks- I had no IDEA except they did an ultrasound at my checkup and there was no heartbeat.  My body hadn't figured out that the baby died, so they did a D/C instead of waiting for it to happen naturally.

In regards to your question about being more fertile after an M/C- I've heard that you are, and I agree that you are.  I had a M/C in June and got pregnant with this last M/C right afterwards.  I've read contradicting information on this because no one has come to a consensus- some say to wait so the lining builds up again, but others say it won't matter if you wait or not.

I really want to try again because me and my husband really want to start a family, but we have to wait because we are going to a fertility specialist.  If you've had a successful pregnancy, I'd say it's up to you when you try again.  You will ovulate approximately 2-4 weeks after an M/C, though my body was only 1 week :S  Go figure.  Anyway, I hope that things go good for you- we've had 3 M/C's and I've had one other one before that, so I know the pain that you have!  Baby dust for you!

with my first m/c i had a d&c.. last monday is when i started to bleed, but last tuesday here at my home i expelled the baby (i was scheduled for the d/c on wed day after i expelled) but since i have been bleeding with some small clots (none really big tho) i saw my OB twice since i expelled everything and i am going in for the d/c tomorrow morning. she feels its best to get the d/c bc i am still having small clots. do you think i should have it done since its been over a week?

i'm sorry to all you guys who responded that have had m/c also. its so hard to get through and to understand WHY. I have a 2 year old son and he's an angel. since i had 2 miscarriages one before and one after my son does that mean that i have a better chance of NOT miscarrying again? i'm pretty clueless about all this. my MAJOR question for someone to answer would be this... since i could probably conceive anytime right now how would i know if i have ovulated or if i am ovulating since my hcg levels would still be high right?? so if i bought a fertility monitor wouldn't it be inaccuarate?? anyone know the answers to this??

how long has it been since ur last mc? are u having problems getting pregnant this time? i wish you all the luck, i truely do. i hope all goes well. its so sad when this kind of stuff happens and there is no real reason for it. i had the option to take the tissue and what i expelled last week for genetic testing, have you ever had this done? what did the results tell you??? its going to take up to 8 weeks for the results which more than likely won't tell much anyways. i'll keep u in my thoughts and prayers, good luck with all. if you ever need someone to talk to i'd be happy to talk anytime.

so you had a D+ c? YEH?

it is a personal choice as to when you start trying again, but i would wait atleast 3 months,.... this will give you time for healing both physically and mentally.... i know you probably want to begin trying again... some women try straight after and go to have healthy babies, but some dont... but i think atleast if you wait u know that you have done everything in your power toprevent another miscarriage. meantime take care of yourself..all the best at what everyou do....
