rectal bleeding.. help.?

Hi I'm 15 years old. & the previous month, I missed my period but the strange thing was that I had rectal bleeding instead. (BTw my period is regular. I have it each month ) I bled a lot. It fills the whole toilet paper. Every day I was doing the # 2 & not a day passed by that I didn't have rectal bleeding. It was painful. Some days more than others. I still have rectal bleeding but it's not as much. Also the whole water in the toilet would turn red from bleeding. & I would also have sometimes some blood clots . however you say that.. But any idea.? Oh & it has lasted over a month since it's still happening. Probably like a month & a half now

You are 15 years of age - you should NOT be bleeding from the rectum.  This is NOT normal.

Only a medical examination would be able to give you the correct diagnosis.

I am sad to hear that you have not been to get checked out by your doctor.
We all ignore things and think "Oh, it will go away, I'll be fine."  But this is not always the case and getting a small thing seen to can stop it progressing into a big issue which is then much harder to treat.

Even if your rectal bleeding is caused through your diet, sometimes even with a healthy diet we still need help from the doctor.

Even if your rectal bleeding is caused by haemorrhoids, these too can get very bad and very painful.

I hope that you change your mind, and get medically seen to as soon as possible.

You have a choice, you carry on as you are with the rectal bleeding which can be very serious and sometimes be cancer, but can also cause other problems like anaemia.  I will let you find out yourself what anaemia is.

Or you make an appointment and see your doctor who will examine you and if necessary will refer you to a specialist and get you on the road to recovery.  On your own, it is highly UNLIKELY that things will resolve.

You MUST tell your parents URGENTLY to book an URGENT appointment to see your doctor.

You have very SERIOUS issues going on that need investigating.

This is something that does NOT go away on its own without any treatment.

Your parents will be more mad at you if you do not tell them that you have a problem.  And believe me you DO have a MAJOR health problem.

The dark urine may be blood in the urine or you not drinking enough water or eating or drinking coloured foods like beetroot.

The reason that it hurts inside is because it is highly likely that you have a fissure or even internal haemorrhoids.  Having green mucus come out as well as the blood is a VERY SERIOUS matter.   Bleeding from the rectum can sometimes be rectal cancer and if detected early can be treated with good prospects of a cure.  If a fissure is very severe, you may need to have an operation to repair it.  It is better and easier to treat a fissure if it is still small.

Tell your parents URGENTLY and see the doctor URGENTLY.

Let me know how you get on.

Yeah I am with these ladies on this. You need to bother your parents with this. Your bleeding from a place you should not be bleeding from and saying its a pretty noticeable amount. I'm sure your parents would rather be bothered with a simple Dr appointment than find out something is wrong way too late.

Sorry I take long to reply, it doesn't notify me. But yeah its actually alot that comes out, not a Lil & I haven't gone or even told my parents. Plus I doubt they would be able to take me to the doctor, wouldn't wanna be a bother either to them. They always see to work so I'm not so sure about even worrying them about this. Plus I'm still kinda afraid to go to the doctor. & what I don't get is that I don't believe I had hard stools when I started off with the rectal bleeding. & but lately I've been really really constipated. Like to the point where I have to sit on the toilet & push for 30 mins. Not even like that sometimes it comes out. & right now my anus hurts even when I'm not passing stool.. like it hurts when I sit down or even walk. I believe it's just from how much I have to push lately. Oh yeah also lately some mucus has came out with it. Like when I wipe, I end up having a lot of gooey mucus come out. The mucus is clear with some green spotting I think. & back to the reply I got from you. I'm pretty sure it wasn't my period... because believe me I would check. Just to make sure it wasn't my period, I would wipe right right where it comes out from so I can get some blood if it was that & but I never got any blood.  I only got blood & blood clots from the anus. Idk if any of this could be servere... I kind of doubt it though.. sorry just don't want to go visit a doctor

You MUST tell one of our parents and get checked by the doctor.

You seem to be doing fine with your food and drink.  As you are still growing, to drink some milk every day, or have some yogurt or cheese.

If you are still constipated (hard to go to empty your bowels), eat more fibre foods, like salads, fruit, cabbage, prunes, sweet corn, nuts, porridge, Wheetabix, Shredded Wheat.

It doesn't seem by your first message that you wrote that you only have a little tiny bit of bleeding.  And the amount that you said was coming out, you seriously need to be checked by your doctor.

You don't need to worry, just have a wash before you go.  The doctor may examine you to see what is happening in the colon, it does not hurt.  No point feeling embarrassed, the doctor has seen it all before.  Don't think about it and let him check you out.  It is best to do that, than for something that could be serous be left and not dealt with.

If your problem is because of having hard stools, the doctor can give you a stool softener.  These are better than laxatives.  Laxatives can make you really rush to the toilet and can cause diarrhea.  They can also give you tummy ache

You are sure that the blood and clots were coming from your rectum and not with you having a period?

Be brave, tell one of your parents.  Parents get more annoyed when children don't tell them that they have a problem.  Your parents will be very concerned for your well being.

If you were my child, I would certainly take you to see the doctor urgently.

Let me know how you get on.

Best of luck.

Thanks so much for the advice. What I don't understand is that I drink plenty of water & also walk a lot. I only drink soda once in a while. I usually drink Powerade atleast once a day but the rest of the day its only water. Also I don't eat much junk food but atleast twice a week or just once. & thanks for your help & i know I shouldn't wait to make an appointment but I'm afraid to tell my parents, or even get checked. So I don't know what to do. I think I'm just going to follow your advice & hope for the best. Cause I really don't want to go to the doctor. But thanks again

Jenn ask a parent or guardian to book you an urgent appointment to see your doctor.

Rectal bleeding should never be ignored.

It is very important that you have a healthy and well balanced diet with lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, lean meat and fish.  Plenty of water to drink as well as milk or yogurt and some cheese for strong bones and teeth.  You are still growing.

Cut out or cut down on sugary foods (that includes sweets, cakes, donuts etc) and cut out or cut down on junk foods and processed foods. Some every now and then is fine.  Cut out fizzy and cola drinks.

Eat brown seeded bread instead of white bread.  White bread is still fine, but not all the time.  The brown bread with the seeds contains more fibre.

Eat Wheetabix or Shredded Wheat, home made porridge, egg on toast, peanut butter on toast for breakfast.  These foods contain little or no sugar and are also full of fibre and other minerals.

Because your stools have been, no doubt, very hard and you have been straining to empty your bowels, it is likely that you have torn a part of the anal canal - this is called a fissure.  Depending on the size of the fissure you can get a lot bleeding.

Haemorrhoids can also happen inside the anal canal as well as on the anus - these are like soft lumps.  They too can be painful and cause bleeding.

Sometimes bleeding from the rectum can be a cause of something very much more serious than the 2 conditions that I have mentioned above.

It is therefore important that you have a healthy and well balanced diet and also do some type of exercise.  Walking is fine.  Exercise will help to get your bowels moving.

Tell a parent or guardian of the problem that you have had with bleeding from the back passage and ask them to book you an appointment to see your doctor.  The doctor will examine you and prescribe a stool softening drink, and a cream for the anus.

Don't ignore this.  Neglecting this can make it much worse and  then you would need an operation to put it right - this is something that you do not want to have done.

See the doctor urgently.

Let me know how you get on.
