stabbing pain and cervix or ovaries

Hi,
I'm 35 years old and have just recently had a stabbing pain in my cervical area (uterus) perhaps. I have this pain off and on throughout the years, but not to this extent. I was couch bound for 3 days. Ever time I moved I felt a sharp pain. It hurt to urinate because of the use of the muscle..not stinging. My GP basically told me not to worry and it was probably nothing. Well, he is definitely wrong. I had these same pains when I was 20. I finally came across a real doctor and was told after my laperoscopy, that they had removed 3 cysts from my fallopian tubes. I felt great for years. Now I am going through the battle of "the doctor vs the idiot" once again. My message is to all out there that feel they have no decision in what gets done to them medically. If you don't agree with your doctor and you know there is something wrong, you go to another one. Don't let them make you feel psychotic. I am on this mission myself. Stand strong!

I am outraged by the lack of attention to detail, policies and procedures that have been put in place to be a guideline for diagnosing and treating pelvic pain. I had to learn them as aNurse Practitioner. They are there for MDs as well. I've been on the receiving end of very good care for ovarian cysts I didn't even know I had. I'd had my uterus out, but they left the ovaries.
Ovarian pain landed me in the ER where they did an ultrasound to look for cysts & measure the size. They are excruciatingly painful if one has ruptured or the Fallopian tube has twisted. They have me something for the intense pain. Surgery was scheduled to remove the ovary with the largest cyst (5cm). Unfortunately my mom passed away right then. I cancelled surgery indefinitely. The cyst has shrunk to 3 cm. & hasn't caused any subsequent problems for 7 years.
The general doc did an abdominal & pelvic CAT SCAN FIRST to be sure I didn't have diverticulitis in my intestines. Which also presents with severe pelvic pain.
If they did any STI tests; I don't recall nor would I have been upset. If that was their FIRST DIAGNOSIS, however, I would have been very angry!!
Doing a urinary test isn't a bad idea. Depends on the hospital.
Ask questions of your provider if they are not offering it willingly. It's YOUR BODY, and we all benefit by learning new & pertinent information.

I've had the same for 5 weeks extreme pain in cervix low pain, left side and right side went to doctor and she done swabs then an internal where she found a cog from a speculum behind my cervix ( mine tilts back so she didn't see it doing tests) I had a fever and feeling exhausted, she put me on 2 lots of antibiotics and I went back a week later in more pain, still had a fever plus more bleeding ( I had a tcre 3 years ago due to endometriosis and been fine since) she sent me to an emergency gyni, and when scanning found a cyst on my left ovary (I've had chocolate cysts in the past) they put me nil by mouth to operate then decided not to and play the wait and see game sent me home on more antibiotics then 3 days later I got taken in by ambulance and admitted they tried sending me home with a uti and more antibiotics a lower dose than what am already on until my mum phoned kicking off, and on reviewing I've now been told I've got the big cyst on left ovary, lots of little ones on right and cysts growing in my uterus wall where my lining has starting to grow back in my muscles in my uterus wall so my tcre has failed they've now put me on zoladex and am waiting for a full hysterectomy am just 30 years old, so I would keep getting 2nd opinions x

I am in the same boat.. Again... About 3 years ago, I was feeling pain, and at the doctor visit I told them I wanted my IUD removed, but they couldn't find it so they did an ultrasound on me to locate the T.. well they noticed I had 2 benigh tumor cysts on my right ovary. So I went into surgery, when surgery was done, they have told me they removed the 2 cysts on my ovary and also 2 cysts on my fallopian tube that they have found during the surgery. Doctor was honest with me and told me I may not have cysts again or may have them again within the next 10 years.

I have moved since, so now I have another civilian doctor. He is simply telling me there is nothing wrong with me. I am in a battle right now.. So will be switching doctors soon.

My symptoms are : Sudden sharp pain on my cervix/uterus area. Intercourse can be painful sometimes. And been spotting for 2 years now, usually small brown (old) clots blood.

These were the same symptoms I had few years ago.

i've  had polycystic ovaries until 17 years old.i never realised i had this until just a few weeks ago when i went in for a scan.the person that was doing my scan told me that i have no cysts on my ovaries but i'm ovulating. When i first went to the doctor about the pain i've been having in my cervix  and in my ovaries. The first thing she asked me if i've had any new sexual partners. I have been with my partner for nearly 5 years we've been trying for a baby for a year. So anyway on test i had the tests done,a blood test and  i had a urine test and it will come back fine. After I made another doctor's appointment and told that everything is fine. I am ovulating but i do have polycystic ovaries in both of my tubes.it's becoming a right pain because i'm still having pains in my cervix and in my  ovaries and they stop me as they are sharp pains that feels like it's a shock. I'm fed up of doctors thinking that we all have stds because we're having this pain. I wish they would just understand and stop making up whatever they think is right.it was embarrassing having a doctors say that to you and you know that you and your partner has been faithful and always had tests even when you had partners before that relationship.when i went to the doctors and i told them about the pain and she said that but the sti she said i might have chlamydia. When i proved it when the test results come back she still try to tell me that it could be chlamydia. So when i said to her could it be polycystic ovaries or could i have cervical cancer or anything alike that, she  told me you are only 22 years old you can't have cervical cancer  i don't think that's a possibility. It's just really frustrating when you have a doctor that does not listen to what you have to say and they think that you're bonkers! is anybody else had this problem?

Yes am having dat i hav besn recuevng madecation 4rm the docter but no change the pain is just increasing especially to the cervix i cant evn sit 4 a long tym
Hi what was the outcome of this? Your pain sounds very much like mine. I just came from an appointment where I felt like they thought I was stupid. She was late walking into the building. Hurt me in an internal exam with a speculum and told me not to move so much. Had someone there I didnt agree to. Both of them looked at me like I was stupid when I asked if they ever felt that pain like mine. I looked at the floor embarrassed. I left and cried. So now Im even worse off than before I went. She knew I had a colposcopy to get CIN3 abnormal cells removed from my cervix last year and was still very cold towards me. (I've also had PCOS in the past but apparently nothing now. Blood and urine tests show nothing.) I'm not imagining this as a doctor put it!
ShellieBun,

You need a new doctor!   There's no reason to subject yourself to that kind of emotional abuse from a so-called 'healer'.  Contact the State medical board, or even the hospital (if they are practising through one) and complain. Don't forget to hit up the HealthGrades website and write a review on the physician and the group/organization they're affiliated with. You may spare someone else an emotionally distressing experience.

Best of luck to you!
This just happened to me today!!!! I have the shocking pains, and been on a good birth control because I have a history of cysts. And big ones too. I was told by the ER I went to, that I had PiD which is caused by and std. I'm married and been with the same person for 7 years. It's frustrating. I only went to the ER because my Dr was out because of a recent bad snow storm. I understand your frustration. :/
Shes lie go to infertility specialist..I had cervical cancer at 23 caught in time 231/2 go see a fertility doc.that what I've done they'll help u

I also understand vaginismus is a condition when having painful sex. I will just be walking around and get sudden pains like someone has just inserted a knife into my cervix! It's intense and I will have to stop and ride out the wave of pain. I have had Pap smears. Urine tests. Blood tests. Internal ultrasounds. All the OB could tell me was vaginismus but it didn't explain the sharp pains when I wasn't even having sex! Which has been a very long time and I am still getting pain! I get this pain during urination too. And it's all over the place in comparison to my menstrual cycle. I'm glad I'm not alone!

I've been plagued with similar symptoms - sharp stabbing pain in my cervix when I sit down, painful sex etc.  My doctor has been treating me for chronic thrush since I had my first child 18 months ago but that's now gone & I still have these symptoms.
In my research I came across a condition called adenomyosis.  It's not widely known but the symptoms include a lot of what I've gone through & what I've read from the other posts on this page.  It's really worth reading up on it to check whether you think it applies to you.  GP's aren't educated about it apparently though it's becoming more recognised amongst gynaecologists. It can be treated but you need to be diagnosed first.  There is an online charity called the adenomyosis advice association which gives more detail than I can.  If you think this applies to you, read up on it & visit your GP with information on the condition.  It looks like this is a case of the patient educating the doctor at this point in time.  Hope this helps.

Hi, I know your post is very old now, but i was just wondering if you ever found out what was really wrong with you and if there was a solution to your problem.  I share the exact same symptoms (except for the lump) as you do and many doctors failed to diagnose my condition.  These pains started two years ago, when I was seventeen as well and are far less frequent now, but I still do get them occasionally and they last up to a few hours at a time. I also have a major sleeping issues just as you do, sleeping up to fourteen hours at a time and still feeling very tired.

endometriosis is not 'cured' by pregnancy .I should know have had 4 babies and was diagnosed with endo before pregnancy with first child .Endo can go into remission for a while due to pregnancy as you are not having periods and also your hormones levels are affected by preganancy and for a while after. My youngest is 2 and endo is back in full painful force again!!

Most of the times it just ovulation or constipation.... both of those things cause the same pain that most think are cycts...
Check when ur last period was..e

Also try pushing... like as if you were having a bowel movment,  if the pressue lets up, then ur most likley constipated..

Here in canada, health care is free, so we never get the run around because they cant take our money and give us 50 different reasons... its pretty straight forward here.

the other 2 possibilities, are cysts (which are usually harmless) or edometriosis, which is usually cured by pregnancy...  make sure you have a yearly pap and get them to swap your cervix for white blood cells, to check for any cancers as well...

wow I am surprised as to how many people have this same symptom,
well I have been experiancing the same pain now for about 14 years and I aswell spoke to my doctor about it but my pain tends to happen around or just after my period. but also the pain can be brought on by intercourse and not to go into my sexual life but my doctor told me to tell my husband not go so deep but it does'nt seem to mater intercorse can triger it just like that. I found this blog by seaching cervix pain and stumbled across all of the posts and to find out i am not the only one with this and much like the other people that have posted i am very scared as to what would be causing such a disturbing pain as it is  if anyone has anymore info please post thanks

i'm going through something similar... yet i am only 17... i went to the doctor to have a lump on the inside of my vagina checked out, and was told that i have a bacteria infektion. I was taking 2 kinds of antibiotics which seemed to help a little bit with the pain i've been having. when i got my examination it hurt the worst on my cervix... in fakt i yelped when she felt it. sometimes i have more of watery discharge with no foul smell... i had an std screening which kame up negative. sometimes i sleep 14 or more hours a day and wake up tired and sick feeling. I have not been back to the doctor since they informed me of my bacteria infektion. before all this happend i was having EXTREME abdominal pains. after alot of testing they said they kouldn't find anything that would cause it. they tried to hint that it's all in my head but i wonder why my brain would create pain for any other reason then to tell me something is wrong with my body.

I am 47 year's old and have had painful periods in my twenties and thirties and finally got pregnant after 15 year's of infertility issues.   I ended up having a miscarriage and when I went into the doctor's office they did an internal ultrasound found a softball size mass.    We decided on a partial hysterectomy leaving my ovaries.   I had two year's of complete painfree living and now the pain is back just as worse as before.   My ovaries swell up so bad and my abdomen gets hard as a rock.  I get shooting pains in my back , down my legs and when I sit straight down the pain shoots right up to my cervix.  There is something wrong.  My emotions are off the wall from the pain too.   Doctors just tell you there is nothing wrong.    $*%&*#)   I know my own body.   There is something wrong.   Pain like this does not occur for no reason.  I wish I could find a doctor that could help me.   They've got me wearing an Estrogren patch but it doesn't help.   I take tons of Tylenol and drink lots of Cranberry Juice thinking it is a bladder infection.   Nothing is helping.

I have the same symptoms: My cervix hurts when I sit or move & I have lower abdomen pain.  I have dark brown discharge between periods.  I am so tired of having tests done to me that are inconclusive.  Is uncomfortable and it hurts!  I am having a HYS test next month because I am also dealing with infertility issues.  Anyway, I really hope that this test determines my problems:-(

I have similiar problems but I am looked after as BV for now.  I had 3 months of antibiotics and it didn't get rid of it completely but I am not in extreme pain.  I decided to see an OB.  She told me to not take any antibiotic as it is not helping.  She wants me to do it the natural way but taking vitamins, drinks lots of water and eat yogurt everyday.  I am just one week off the antibiotics.  I am now getting more pain and more discharge but it is still bearable.  I think I will keep at it as it should take longer time to recover the natural way.
