sudden bump

by Buckeey, Dec 18, 2006 12:00AM
Overnight 2 nights ago I seemed to have developed a pimple like bump in my tongue. its not actually growing off it, its inside my tongue and when I feel it with a finger it feels sort of like a pimple does. Its the same color as a canker sore, but like i said, its not flat like one so i know its not one of those. anyone know what it might be? its kind of weirding me out with the way it suddenly appeared.

May I ask if you are pregnant?

Wow... I had something like this on the middle of my tongue. Got it when I was about 6 months pregnant. The ENT doctor wanted to surgically remove it, but my brother-in-law, the dentist, suggested I wait instead, saying that it was a hormonal phenomena and that it would go away after the birth. It went away about a month after the baby (now 21!) was born.

It is weird...I know what you mean. It was flat and raised and attached to the middle of the tongue....yes, I know how you feel.

Hope this helps...do get it checked out, though, since it sounds like it needs to be seen by a doctor.

Take care, Mary

- You can have cancer in the mouth
- "transient lingual papillitis" (also fibroma).  This is a harmless problem that is thought to be caused by accidentally scraping the surface of one or more of the normal small bumps on the top of the tongue.
- thrush (yeast infection in the mouth)
- herpes infection
- oral ulcer
- stomatitis

Just to rule out all the bad things it could be, go see a doc like Mary said.
