Just wondered if you made a claim againt the health board about this??

Ive recently had my injection, after being on it for years with no problems, only this time i got a new nurse and she has hit my sciatic nerve and like you have been floored by it! I have 4 children depending on me to be fit for them, and i also USED to go to Karate 3 nights a week but havent been able too since the injection. Ive been in excructiating pain, had the Emergency docs out yet i seem to be being fobbed off by my health clinic!!

Been told to claim for it but was worried bout taking on the health service!!

I just talked about the Depo shot w/my gyno.  He steered me far away from it.  He said most people will have erratic bleeding, weight gain, and horrible mood swings.  Your injecting 3 months worht of hormones in you in one day.  That just can't be good.  I think the scariest thing for me was weight gain. It's not like a few pounds but it can be 20-30.  Im 5'7" and 118 and I can't picture myself w/that much more weight on.

The first month of Depo was great.  But then every month after that and then after my 2nd shot it just kept going down hill.  I was soo moody (Hubby says Im lucky he still married me after the way I treated him while I was on it..lol).  After my 2nd shot I started bleeding for like 2 days then would stop and start back up.  I was so misrable.  After the 2nd shot I gained 50lbs that month.  I even exercised and ate healthy but nothing mattered.  I stopped the shot in Nov 04 right before I was suppose to get the 3rd shot and just started losing weight in Jan 06, since it can stay in your system 12-18 months.  But then I found out I was preggo in Feb 06.  So as soon as hes born Im going on a diet!!!

I will never agian go on depo.. It has so many side effects that they never tell you about. They make it sound so great and wonderful to be on. I would say make a different decision.. If you are looking for no period to mild period I would personally suggest Marina IUD. I know several people who have this and have no side effects what so ever. I was going to go on this until I came off Depo and with no period what so ever got pregnant in no time at all. Like less than a month. Just my pesonal opinion. good luck with whatever you choose.

I HATED IT!!! I bled the WHOLE time! That's enough birth controll itself! Now, that's just my personal opinion. A lot of women don't bleed at all. I was just unlucky. Plus, when I got it, it had just come out.

I had been on the depo provera for 5 years until 3 months ago. I had never had any problem until I switched from getting my injections from my ob/gyn to my family physician. The nurse who gave me my injection on my rear hit my sciatic nerve. I have been in intense nerve pain since then. I have been diagnosed with sciatica.
The good news is that the damage is not permanent. The estimate I have been given is 6 months to a year. The worst thing is how my doctor's office treated me after. I had called the doctor back the same day because the pain became so severe in my right leg and buttock. My calls were not returned and I kept working, which made things worse.  It has been 3 months and sometimes I can barely walk. I will be seeing a pain management specialist.
I know that the nurse did not mean to cause harm, but be very careful and only go to your ob/gyn to get your shot. It may seem a simple procedure but because the shot  should go in to deep tissue if given in the wrong place is very serious.
p.s. I went to the emergency once when I could not stand the pain. The doctor and nurses did not seem surprised when I told them what happened.

I started depo when I was 15 and was on it for one year to regulate my cycle(through my ob/gyn). That was like the worst year of my life. I gained so much weight and it was like I never stopped bleeding.(I would bleed for 10 days stop for about three and then start agin) Needless to say that made things worse. If I was you I would go to your local clinic and talk to them about it. The shot maybe right for you but I would still look into other forms of bc. Have you been on the patch?

SORRY TO POST AGAIN, BUT I WAS ON THE PATCH TOO, AND I HEARD THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH IT SO BAD THAT THERE ARE LAWSUITS FOR IT.  I DIDN'T REALLY HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH IT AT FIRST BUT AFTER ABOUT 6 MONTHS OF BEING ON IT I GOT HEART PALPATIONS AND MY FINGERS AND TOES WOULD GO NUMB SOMETIMES.  THESE SYMPTOMS DISAPPEARED AFTER I STOPPED TAKING IT.  THE BEST B/C I'VE EVER BEEN ON WOULD HAVE TO BE THE GOOD OLE PILL.  BUT CHECK WITH A GYNO AND SEE WHAT MIGHT BE BEST FOR YOU.

I WAS ON THE SHOT TOO, FOR 2 YEARS AND FOR THE FIRST YEAR I SPOTTED FOR SIX MONTHS STRAIGHT.  I WAS MISERABLE.  THE FIRST YEAR I LOST ABOUT 20 POUNDS BUT THEN AFTER THE SECOND, I HAD GAINED IT BACK, PLUS TWENTY MORE.  AND I HAD HOT FLASHES, PREGNANCY SYMPTOMS, SORE NIPPLES, AND NAUSEA.  BUT I GUESS IT WORKS DIFFERENTLY FOR DIFFERENT PEOPLE.
