trying again after years of infertility

by lisapep, Oct 24, 2005 12:00AM
Well here we go. Well after 4 years of infertility we finally got pregnant and had a baby. (many many infertiltiy drugs later :-) ) anyhoo.  our little man is 4 now and we would like to start trying for no 2. this time we are trying the natural route.  No meds.  if it is the good Lords will he will make it happen. However i do want to take ovulation predictor test just to confirm the timing is there.  So here is my ?? What Ovulation predictor kits are the best one around these days.  When taking your temp (i cant remember..) it is when your temp dips then goes up is that the sign you are ovulating? so do we start baby making intercourse on the dip day or the increase day.  Thanks so much for all of your advise.. lets keep our fingers crossed and see what happens

thanks

I too am trying to have a baby, and i believe that they say when yer temp goes up then you are more fertile, u can also tell by yer secretions where u are in your cycle.

The ovualtion kits didn't work for me, plus they can get expensive! The other thing is I wasn't sure when I was ovulating in my cycle so it was hard to determine when I should take the test. The 4th month of TTC I started taking my taking my BBT. I found it much easier to read. You really get an idea of your body and cycle. This is my understanding...you start taking your temp on the first day of your cycle. at this time your temp is generally at it's highest (around 98.2-98.6). Once your period ends your temp goes down. My lower temps average from 97.3-97.5. Your temp will fluctuate during your lows, but the moment your temp goes up to the high range you have already ovulated (most likely the day before). For the first month or two it's really a way to figure out your cycle. If your comforatble you should also keep track of your CM. I keep track of my chart at http://www.fertilityfriend.com/ It's been a great tool! And worth the membership.
Hope that helps. Best of luck to you!

I used the Answer brand OPK.  I used it 1 month and it worked.

I don't know about charting your BBT, I never did that.

If you're looking for a completely stress free way of doing it, just have sex every other day starting on the tail end of your period.  This way you're sure to hit your ovulation time without the stress of charting or testing it.

Hi first of all the best of luck to you!  We used the OPK Clear Plan Easy.  The electronic one..it tracks your cycle from the 1st or 2nd day of your period until you ovulate.  It shows on a "bar" type graph and the final one shows an egg in it ...it will start going up as you get closer.  We went through the whole process of clomid and shots etc.  I found this predictor test to be pretty accurate.  If you look on ebay you can usually find it cheaper.  We started with the packs at the store but if you are not sure when to start testing it make it hard.  The First Response is more expensive up front but if it takes a couple months to get pregnant it could save you money in the long run.
