my wife and i are going tommorrow for our 1st ultrasound..she is we think around about 6weeks maybe some days...we have had difficulty in conceiving and with the help of a specialist and 2 years of patience our dream has come true....now i am wondering if it is possible there could be more than one in there...she has been taking clomid and has had several iui's...my grandmaw had 4 sets of twins...so i am....yeah a little hopeful there might me more than one...so finally my question is how early in the pregnancy can a dr tell if there is multiple babies in an ultrasound

I don't mean to burst your bubble or give your false hope, but I was told that the possibility of multiples runs on the woman's side of the family, not the man's.

they might be able to tell at 6 weeks if thres a mutiple pregnancy . twins occurs about one per 80 births.clomid increases multiples birth by about 5 percent of higher than normal, genetic pre disposition to multiple births only comes from maternal side . hopefully when your wife get an ultra sounds tomorrow they will be able to tell.GOOD LUCK TO U GUYS..

Yup, don't know if you were wanting multiples, but it only runs on the mother's side.  She's the one producing the egg or eggs if multiples, and you always produce many sperm.  It especially goes up if she has fraternal twins in the family, that means she produces more than one egg instead of the same egg being split.  We were worrying about it with my pregnancy (my mom's a fraternal twin) but we're in the clear.  Granted your chances go up with Clomid, but sounds like you'll just have to wait until tomorrow!  Good luck!!

Clomid does increase your chances of having multiples.  Twins run on both sides of mine and my husbands family.  Luckily when I went for the first ultrasound they said they were 100% sure there was just one.  But they will be able to tell tomorrow.
