underarm breast tissue

i have had a lump under my arm tht was tested 18months ago. i was told this is a breast horn and made up of breast tissue.   it has since grown and is now egg size,  certain times of the month it is very painful and gets bigger.  i was refered back to hospital and the consultant felt it and said they could not do anything as it has grown up into my nerves of my arm.   as i have had a lot of shoulder problems it would not be wise to remove it.  okay i can understand this, but what is the risk of leaving it, should i have any follow up mamograms or worry if it gets bigger. it is very noticeable when i wear sleeveless tops. i cant find any information on internet about this either.

I too had this. I am 11 days post surgery for excess auxiliary breast tissue and masses between the underarm and breast on both sides. I went to a cosmetic/plastic surgeon to have them removed (which because of them being painful at times, was covered by my insurance). The surgeon decided to hide the incisions under the arms. He removed a mass, excess breast tissue and a gland on the left side and a mass and excess breast tissue on the right side. The left was much bigger. I had outpatient surgery under General anesthesia (you go to sleep for this type). I was discharged the same day. For the first few days I had alot of pain and swelling and I couldn't do muchforafew days-a week.   . There were no drains put in place and all sutures were placed inside and under the skin. After 3 days I was told I could change the dressings. I had a follow up appointment 5 days after surgery and was told that the swelling, arm pain and my right upper arm feeling numb was normal considering its this early on. I still have some swelling, but it's slowly going down. The left side may take longer because of so much having to be removed. The Ann pain I have is among the underside of the upper arm. I have been taking 600mg Motrin to help with inflammation and I massage my arms each night before bed. I also do some gentle range of motion excersizes. I'm careful not to push myself, and only do what my body allows me to do. Prior to surgery I couldn't wear sleeveless tops, tank tops, or t-shirts that were right under the arms because of how large the lumps were under my arms. Now, even though I still have some swelling, I can see a difference. I'll keep you updated in a few weeks as to how things are coming along. My suggestion if you're going to get this surgery done.....make up some meals ahead of time, have someone with you to help you with things, go for an under arm wax (I wish I had), take it easy and don't try doing anything the first week. (I had to have my teenage son brush my waist length hair for me, get me drinks, snacks and food, bring me pillows, check on me throughout the day, feed the dog, etc). Also you have to sleep on your back for about 6-8 weeks, so get lots of pillows. The nurse recommended sleeping with a body pillow on each side of me. I am able to make due with three several pillows I have. It's difficult for me however because I have sponge problems and sleeping on mutt back gives me terrible back aches. But I suffer through as best I can until I am healed. Will update in a few weeks! :) Good luck to everyone.

I also have the extra breast tissue under my right arm.  It got more pronounced after I had my 2nd baby.  I talked to my OB/GYN about a year or so ago and she referred me to a surgeon to have it removed (it would be covered by insurance).  The surgeon than referred me for an ultra sound prior to the surgery this is where the drama started.  I went in for the ultra sound knowing full well it was okay and cancer free since I had a mammogram a month earlier.  Well the ultra sound tech was nice and did her job than the ultra sound doctor came in with complete attitude never looked at the screen to view my lump and immediately tells me why are you being vain just lose weight.  I'm horrified and can't even find words at that moment.  She goes on and on about how unnecessary surgery is and that losing weight is all I needed.  Never once feeling or looking at the lump for herself.  Mind you I'm not overweight in the least...so I'm horrified and wondering how she treats overweight people.  I leave the appointment almost in tears.  I then cancel the whole procedure because I'm so upset and feeling "is it really necessary?"  Well here I am and a year has passed and still have the same lump.  I have been wearing tank tops but I'm always wondering can people see it, is it really noticeable, etc.?  Well my neighbor two days ago says something about me having a bump under my arm so now all my insecurities about it have come rushing back... I don't really want to do surgery and go through all the crap again but I would really love to feel comfortable in tank tops....what to do?  Hmmmm!

This has been very helpful. I am still going to get this lump checked out. But I am now relaxed about it. I've had this since my second child. And recently it started hurting. I'm emotionally happy that I'm not the only one and talk know what the doctor told you it was just apart of the breast tissue. I was (and still am) that it could be breast cancer. Though I'm more relaxed. Thanks!

i first noticed my underarm tissue were growing when i had my menstruation way back maybe when i was 14-16 yrs old. it started to grow a bit bigger as i get older. i had consulted obgyne specialists because my underarm tissue feels tender, often times harder and painful before and during my menstruation but they all told me the same assessment - that it was just part of my breast tissue extended up to my armpits. when i got pregnant it grew bigger towards d whole pregnancy. it was tender, hard and a bit painful while doing breastpump. my child is turning 6 now and it never went back to its original size. it stayed bigger like 3/4 size of an egg. it's annoying because it lowers my confidence - i cant wear any sleeveless nor swimsuits. i even hide it from my husband because it looks like a nutsack. i'm very worried to have another child because of it. my bra hits d excess tissue and it is painful sometime. it also hurts when i sleep sideways because my arm and body squeezes it. what do i really neeed to do... have it removed or not? if removed, how and how much? any ideas pls

I had the same lump in my arm.  Had most of it removed about a month ago.  My dr confirmed it was breast tissue and mentioned it may produce milk once I get pregnant.  (I am 27 w/ no children)  The arm that I had the lump in is much bigger, even after surgery, than my other arm which is embarrassing when I am wearing sleeveless dresses/tank tops.  I wish there was a better answer to this dillema, but also feel better knowing I am not alone.

i ave the same thing under my right armit i got it when i had my first child, since then it has grown to about the size of a boiled egg it also leeked milk when i was breast feedin and i could'nt put my arm down, but i noticed that when aving my second child it grew and became slightly hard, i went to my doctor who refered me to the hospital where they told me it was breast tissue & it may grow if i ave any more children. they said i can have it removed which i am as ive had this since my first child who is 9 years old this year. Its been very hard for me to deal with this for so long as when its warm i cant wear sleeveless tops or vests, bt i think you shud see some1 else to see if they can help if not i dont no how things are for you but you could consider going private.

I have the same on my underarm and I notice that my mum have it on both arm when I was growing up, I only have it on one underarm, It was when I had my first child that I noticed it there and I thought it will go away after I stop breast feeding, but I still have it, I consulted my doctor about it and he said it is a breast tissue that some women have it and it is not dangerous. He said they can do a surgery for me, they can remove it and after two days I will feel better. I told my mum about it and she said I should not do the surgery, my mum still have it and she did not do anything about it and it does not cost her any pain the only thing is she can not wear a sleeveless shirt.

The only trouble with leaving it is that it could grow further.  I would check with another specialist and see if removal is really ruled out.
